Is there anything out there more towards the Superstar end of the price range as opposed to the Race Face end of the price range?

104bcd.

You'll not get a 28T in 104.
Mrsstu has one of these which works well.
It's a 28T but bolts to the 64 granny tabs.

Not available in 104bcd AFAIK, 30T rings are modified to fit as they are the lower limit. 30t oval maybe?

My mistake, by the looks of it the crank is a SRAM one with a removable spider, does that mean you can get those funky direct mount rings?

Can you get a 30t oval to fit 104bcd?

You can but I'm not convinced by the whole oval thing, round works for me.

Yep, 3 T25's to remove the spider and fit a direct mount ring. Simple and easy.

Yes, the x-sync SRAM rings are what you're after.
Those steel ones are a bargain too. Cheaper than any of the alloy ones I've seen and should resist both wear and impacts much better too.

In answer to some of the earlier questions:
No, oval 30t will not fit on 104BCD, 32t oval is the smallest compatible with 104BCD
30t round is the smallest non-oval that will fit on 104BCD.
