Thinking about getting a full sus 275 frame and using my Cotic Bfe 26er as donor parts and upgrading as and when, or just going for a 26er full sus frame and forget the 650b wheel size thing, obviously a lot less choice. Anyone done the mix and match thing?

Makes next to no difference, best getting a 650b frame, use whatever you've got, it'll ride bang on.

Any recommendations for a 650b full sus all mountain frame I can use with a tapered RS Sektor 150mm 26er fork? Looking for bargains!

Was looking at a Nukeproof Mega TR on CRC, still looking for more of a bargain though. Seems mad to sell my current frame forks and wheels considering price drops on 26er stuff at the moment.

The fork will sit a little low in comparison so will the bb.

Banshee Spitfire is designed for this - swappable dropouts for different wheel/axle standards and adjustable geometry so you can raise the bottom bracket with 26" wheels. 140mm fork minimum, 160mm better for 26". Fantastic frame but they aren't often discounted like Nukeproofs etc.

Otherwise you could go with pretty much any 27.5 frame which suits a similar fork A-C length to your 150mm Sektor - just avoid those with very low BB heights* or you might find it a frustrating experience. Incidentally the Cotic Rocket 275 is on the higher side so that would be a good choice.

* Unfortunately the static BB height isn't the best guide of the actual BB height when riding, which depends on the sag the bike suits, the leverage curve on the frame and the frame anti-squat. A bike with strong anti-squat and a leverage curve which doesn't wallow through the midstroke will hold itself up better when climbing, allowing a lower actual BB height for better cornering (see Spitfire!)

I just did this exact same thing Canyon Spectral with 26 wheels and 160 forks, I didn't see the point of giving away a top end wheelset and forks for 12mm increase in wheel radius, I doubt It would have been benificial on the forest tracks I ride most of the time or maybe I'm just tight. I have to say I am more than pleased with the results. I think the bb height was spot on because I used 160 forks.

Been doing this for over a year now on a yt wicked frame which im running lyriks with 26" wheels..rides lovely

Anyone done the mix and match thing?

A mate has the new aluminium Ragley Mmmop (650b) on his older 26 inch running gear, works fine.
Arguably the lower BB makes it corner incredibly well, the fact that both front and rear wheels are smaller and match means that geometry is unaffected, the bike simply sits lower...perfect.

Didnt somebody win the Mega a few years ago with a 650b bike running 26 inch wheels?...gave the rider huge tyre clearance in muddy conditions.
Its what i'll be doing when the time comes to upgrade my HT, its a 26 and i'll be looking for 650b next...i'll just put the forks, wheels etc from my current bike across onto the new frame and upgrade parts as and when i can afford to.

I've had my eye on a Bird Aeris frame! Not to budget but be interested to know if and how 26" kit rides!

[i]#26aintdead (just yet). Going fast, leaving the ground, quick turns and bashing elbows with my friends when racing / razzing down hills, is my jam. In 2014 I took a Rocket26 demo bike to the Alps for a fortnight, which was a treat. There was nothing that my skill allowed that the bike didn't cater for. It's no surprise that 99% of people out there were on 26" bikes. They're strong, light, cheap & readily available. After that Rocket26 went off to its new home, I looked for an alternative 26" frame and ended up with a Santa Cruz Blur 4X. A perfect companion for the short, jumpy, rough riding I prefer to do. The only problem was it's nearly 10 years old and with that, comes the 1 1/8" headtube and the rapidly dwindling choice of forks with straight steerers. In the meantime the Rocket275 arrived and would be my first choice but the thought of changing my lovely new 26" Hope Enduro wheels was a bit of a bugbear. We get a lot of inquiries about whether we're going to make another new full-suss 26" frame and the answer is still NO. However, would 26" wheels work in the new Rocket275? Why not give it a go? So we did.

And - nothing bad happened. The bike industry survived, luddites and futurists weren't waiting round the next tree to jump out and attack me. All was good.

The main worry was that the BB would be so low it would make pedal strikes a major problem. We spend most of out rides in the Peaks, full of ruts, uneven grit stone rocks and high heather - pedal strikes are a way of life so a marginally higher BB is actually an advantage. The 26" set-up has been tested at a smooth, trail center style park with jumps, a tight & twisty explore through the local woods, a long Peaks loop and a mud filled slog through steep and technical woods. I'm very far from the best rider that's graced a bicycle, but I can count the total pedal strikes on one hand and found nothing that reminded me that I was on a hybrid. As we kept 27.5 forks on it as well, the ride height dropped equally front and rear. The stock BB height has a 3mm drop with 27.5 wheels. The effective BB drop with 26" wheels, when compared with other 27.5" frames is 17mm, which is still comparable to other bikes on the market. Clearance is obviously fine for a larger tyre (and with the new Cotic mudgards, the extra space at the front end is hidden somewhat). If you have a pair of 160mm 26" forks (541mm static height or taller) then these will work too, making the geometry approximately the same as stated for 150mm 27.5" forks (66 deg head angle), and you can upgrade piecemeal over time.

As a result of all this, I literally put my money where my mouth is and am now the owner of a shiny new Rocket275 in orange, running my lovely 26" Hope wheels, and I've treated myself to some Sweep Roughcut HLR forks to go with it.[/i]

I'd like to run a Bird Zero AM with 26" gear

I have 26" wheels on an original zero with no problems though I am using 650b forks. Check the bb drop, if the AM is similar you will be fine.
