looks like I can choose the XFusion Hilo at 170-200 or the Thomson Elite for 350ish or the gravity dropper at 200 with the goddam awful rubber boot.
Any others I'm missing or worth considering? anyone got one for sale?
thanks.

Got 2 XFusion HiLo posts and they have been good. They have been run for 2 years in the mud with little maintenance.

i've just bought an RSP Plummet with the god awful boot, but at £60 from Tredz cycles i though it was worth a punt... not even out of it's box so this is by no means a comprehensive review.

Hope you didn't get the one I sent back to them...

OP - you can get Thomson for about 250-60 depending on exchange rates from one of the continental shops.

Yeah I'd go KS I think - the Lev is a quality product and they have some cheaper options too.

I've got a lev. Pretty easy to work on. Full strip down threads out there and you can get parts.

Thomson sounds nice but I'd heard they were discontinuing the 27.2

depends, if you want it to work reliably for years (4 so far on mine) with easy servicing and reasonably priced service items and be able to rely on it buy a GD
if you want something that looks pretty but can have varying degrees of reliability that you can't trust to work just when you need it get something else

be thankful that you can't get a reverb in 27.2!

The lev is great but lacks an air valve to top the pressure up. If it loses air it's a warranty job, or a wedge of cash if it's out of warranty. Also because it's fully sealed, you can't service it yourself.

If you're not planning on changing frames anytime soon I'd suggest going for the Hilo. Mine was faultless and still going strong on a mate's bike 3 years after I bought it.

Got 27.2 HiLos for myself & Mrs Uber 4 years ago, they're still going strong. If you opt for the remote, I'd strongly suggest upgrading the cable & outer, as the set that comes with the post is awful.

The remote lever itself is OK, but if you happen to run 1x10/11, you could always convert a left shifter into a dropper lever. Did that a couple of weekends ago, and it's a huge improvement!

Mate has a HiLo, it's not too bad but as mentioned by uberscott, my mate also found it wasn't brilliant until the cable/out was upgraded.

On my old hardtail I tried an RSP Plummet, but it didn't last very long - stopped staying up reliably. So can't recommend one of those, no matter how cheap it is.

My oldest GD is 10 years old next month. Never done anything to it. I have 3 others on other bikes and I've only ever changed cables when I've needed longer ones for different bikes. Or you could buy something pretty.

On my second Thomson, first one went back after a few rides with a some issues and got a full refund as no stock in the uk at the time, the new one has only been on for 5 or 6 rides and all seems well

I never used the Thomson lever in favour of a XT rear shifter i bodged to keep things all neat and tidy

I use a Hilo, but as above it was far improved with a ks southpaw lever instead of the one it came with.

I just got another Gravity Dropper, they're great. Ugly, but you are very welcome to buy an inferior product just because it looks nicer.

I like KS but haven't used the 27.2, everyone I've met with a Thomson has had at least one warranty replacement but maybe that's just bad luck?

Loved my Gravity Dropper. Ok its not pretty but its totally reliable and if it does get a bit sticky then you just take it apart and clean it up. The only post i would look at in that size.

[quote=Northwind ]everyone I've met with a Thomson has had at least one warranty replacement There you go. Buy a Thomson, steer clear of Northwind and you'll be fine.
