So I am about to buy new forks for the boost Anthem I am building, Am I better buying 29 boost forks which will allow a switch to the hard tail and chubby plus tyres at some point and also allow switching to a 29 frame? Or stick to boost 27.5? Will doing that raise the front end...ie are 29 forks “longer”? I realise the info is probably out there but the more I read the less clear it seems to be.
some Yari`s are boost and 650b/29er at the same time.
i have 3 sets, they are a great fork
It depends.. generally 27.5+ boost forks are shorter axle to crown. Not always tho as the X-Fusion McQueens are marketed as a 27.5 plus for but will take a 29 (and a bit tyre) and are longer than an equivalent fox 34 29 boost float.
I’m running a set of 27.5 boost pikes on my SolarisMax. The A-C at 140mm is about the same a set of Fox 34s set at 120mm so best of both worlds! The offsets are likely to be different as well (although this is changing as well) as 29s were generally 51 and 27.5 44. Confusingly new 29ers are increasingly being spec’d with shorter offsets.
But if I was looking for a new fork I’d get something that would take both wheel sizes. Not sure there’s much of a downside. Having said all that the setup on my SolarisMax feels great great!
Thanks guys, 29 rebas it probably is.
44 I think. It’s a 2016 that I had upgraded to the latest charger damper and then decided to sell the bike it was on. So I thought I’d best make some use out of it!
the boost rockshox recons on my new ride will take 27.5+ or 29er up to 2.5 (2018 marin b-17)
