Looking for a dropper for a 2009 hardtail

It needs to be 27.2mm, but the best I can find is a brand x, butbonlybhas 105mm of drop

Does anyone have experience or knowledge on something with more drop?
Can be internal or external, but would prefer external routing!

Thanks

KS eten and I think KS Lev both do 120mm drop. That's the most I've found.

Thomson do 120mm drop in 27.2mm, external routing. A very nice dropper post it is too. I thoroughly recommend it.
I don’t think that anything exists with more than 120mm drop, due to length/diameter constraints.

Wasn’t there an article on the home page a while ago about this?
Brand X, KS, Thompson, and probably a few others on eBay.

Edit
Gravity Dropper?

I put a PNW Pine 110mm dropper on my hardtail for this winter. It’s externally routed but really tidy. Can recommend it.

Had a Tbomson for a couple of years, flawless. Highly recommend.
However, I did baulk at paying £250 for a second hand seatpost...

I had a 120mm KS, I can't remember exactly which model as I've a feeling it ended up being not the one I wanted, due to availability. And it was grand- the difference between 100mm and 120mm is pretty massive imo. (not to say 100mm isn't worth having, but 100mm is sort of just about adequate, 120mm's starting to move into the "riding like I want to ride" territory and not still 100% in "riding around the seatpost and it's pissing me off but at least it's not all the way up" like 100mm always was for me.

It was well made, worked well, reliable while I had it but the bike got nicked so I can't comment on long term.

Thanks all,

Seems like there are 4 options:

Brand X: only 105mm drop
PNW: ideal choice but out of stock
KS: can't find stock in any UK based stores
Thompson: out of budget

I would recommend the brand X one. Worked for me and made my xc bike more capable.

Against all advice I bought an X fusion Hi-Lo a few years back. Been faultless after several winters

I bought a Brand X dropper for my 5, not had much chance to use it due to covid, but happy with it for the money and thinking of getting one for my hardtail.

I have a Brand X on all my bikes, including my commuter/hack bike, which has 27.2 mm seattube. They have all been excellent, but the 27.2 mm post is limited to 4" drop, whereas the bigger posts are available with 6" or more. Just takes a little more effort to get off the back of the saddle on steep stuff.

The other thing with Brand X is that they have two different levers. I find the 2x lever much better than the 1x lever, if you have that choice when ordering.

I had the brand X on one of my gravel bikes for about a year, it was great on the few occasions I used it. But I used it so little it's now on eBay (stealth addvert 😁).....

Should I get one for my gravel bike so the left hand brifter does something?
