Looking to buy a 27.2 dropper for my young nephew. Brand X was the obvious choice - any bargains about or better alternatives for the same money?

I have a Tranz x on my old bike. Little bit of play but was faultless otherwise.

I had a Forca one which was hopeless, wobbled all over the place.
Got an ex-display Thomson for £250 or returned or something, I forget what, sort of new but not quite anyway, pricey but in a different league tot he old one. Keep your eyes peeled for a used one of those if you can find one. Possibly a bit more than a new Brand X but it has been excellent

Try KS - nearly all their droppers have a 27.2 option

My 27.2 Thomson is lovely but needed a full rebuild @ around 100 quid two months out of warranty when it stopped returning. Also the bar lever is a bit pants, way too small imo.

I've got 2x Thomson droppers ...
When they are working they are engineering art.... (WAY better than my Fox which had play from day 1) but like the Fox not user serviceable.

one just failed (cartridge) after 1yr 11mo and I just called i-ride and apparently no problem warranty return.... having pulled the seatpost out and cleaned it up it actually looks new... unlike a reverb which would be full of rust.

That said, its a thing of (engineering) beauty but functionally no better than the brand-x...
