I spotted on one chunky monkey / smogasbords in their sale for £15.99/£17.99 in 650b so bought hem on impulse.
I recently had the same tyres in 26” and for the spring / summer / autumn hey were pretty good. Ran tubeless with no dramas / no punctures and as long as no sloppy mud they did the job for cheap (big bike has dhf / aggressor in the summer but I don’t want to spend that sort of money on my play hardtail).
Has anyone got experience of the same tyres in both sizes - or are he 650b as good as 26er or am I going to be disappointed come the spring?
The bike is currently running Magic Mary / Dhr2 although so far there hasn’t been that much mud where I’ve been riding.
You're overthinking this Joe.
They're the same, but a bit bigger diameter.
I've tried those and also 29, and all have been great. Prefer the Smorg. in all sizes as it comes up nice and round on wider rims. I run mine with tubes.
I've got both sizes - seem fairly consistent.
Just a thought - I’ve seen other posts for other tyres where one wheelsize is materially different to another.
Should be quite quick rolling for the summer and good for trail centres then. Will be running mine tubeless on 25mm internal width rims.
Already dreaming about the warmer / drier weather!
We have two sets of Chunky/Smorgy in the oab house in 27.5, and ran them in 26"
As you say, they are a good part of the year all-round, ok rolling, ok grip, supple tyres.
They definitely do not do deep mud or that surfy/surface mud - they just don't cut down into it.
Can't say I noticed much difference between 27.5 and 26.
I have noticed the difference in compound between the models.
I think the ones I got are
Trail extreme with the dual compound rather than the single compound ones. Should have the ‘eckso’ sidewalls so I’m expecting them to be broadly similar to the exo ones on my Maxxis tyres!
