Anyone any real time experience ?
Wanted smaller plus tyres to give me more grip and fun factor on the hardtail.
I've bought some Specialized ones but they odd sizing, the butcher intended for front being smaller than purgatory for rear. So not tried them yet and might just swap them.
Mike
Just fitted a 2.6 Hillbilly and it looks massive!
Only the Nobby Nic, i placed one on front of Stooge hoping it would be a decent size, but not so big as to require a proper 29+ rim (running Stans Flows), to be honest it comes up small and doesn't look to much bigger than the 2.25 on the rear.
tops 5 - what are you running on the back?
I'm thinking maybe a Hillbilly instead of butcher..
The purgatory seems like what I was expecting with decent carcass shape, whereas the butcher isn't.
Ive used them for about a year now. I like em.
I have few 2.6 tyres for my bike, DHF WT on the front is very good in most conditions. For rear the Rekon has really low rolling resistance but limited grip, DHR is bit heavy and slower but predictable. Nobby Nic (blue stripe) didn’t work for me at all, very limited grip at any pressure.
All these on DT 35mm rims
I think rim width is key on these. Even 2.8's don't sound to come up very big if not on 30-35mm+ wide rims.
On a tangent - anyone running 2.6in front tyre in a non-boost fork with a chunky mudguard like a Mudhugger or Rockguardz one?
Is there enough clearance?
2.5 shorty with a mudhugger in a non-boost Sweep no problem at all. Reckon a 2.6 would fit fine too. Though the Sweep does seem more spacious than a Pike.
2.4 is max I used.
Some of the "PLUS" bikes really look they are fun...
Would like to try as well!
😉
I’m waiting for the Forekaster. Liked the early reviews, sounds interesting.
Rocket Rons 27.5 - 2.8F/2.6R - great fun and good in all conditions with the exception of mud - they get very slippy and slidey (unlike my 2.25 Ron's).
Yep 2.6 Hillbilly as above, non boost with Mudhugger on Lyriks, "normal" Hope rims tho (23mm?) spins fine
@Mickey - - Highroller2 at the moment - probably about to put a Minion DHF2 on though (both 2.3)
cheers, your setup is pretty close to mine actually tops5 - so that's good to hear
I fancy one of them 2.6in Butchers for the spring, if they ever go on sale
Just put a 2.6 NN on the back of my hardtails on a WTBi35 rim and it measures true to size. Also running a 2.8 NN on my non boost 27.5 Sweeps with a mudhugger. Bit of a squeeze but runs without any problem or touching.Did have to warm the mudhugger up and shape it to the bulges on fork legs. Not ridden the NN yet but ran with a 2.8 RR on the front before without problems.
To contrast, I have non-boost Lyriks and a 2.6" Butcher but with my Easton ARC 30s (30mm internal) I can't use the Mudhugger FR as the wheel just won't spin.
I ate and inhaled a lot of dust during our trip to Finale in October....
FWIW my 2.8in Nic on 35mm internal rim will not fit in a non-boost Pike with Rockguardz 350 fitted. Hence my caution.
Mines the normal MH not the FR. The FR has a lip on the front edge.

Thats with the 2.8 RR on the front and a XR4 on the rear
