So my 2011 giant anthem is sat in my underground not doing anything. I'd like a cheapish hardtail frame to build something up for my wife to ride, and swap the parts over. Is it going to be a 2nd hand search? Current frame is an xl, so she'll never fit on it!

Reckon second hand is most likely. It's a while ago but I seem to remember the Transition Trans Am being one of the least old school 26" frames?

I’d be looking for a mk3 soul, great bikes.

Most 27.5" frames will be fine as long as the bb drop wasn't massive to start with. I ran a Dartmoor hornet with 26" wheels for ages.

I think your best is just scouring ebay etc to see what comes up.

You might find it better to buy a bike than a frame, even if you pick and choose the best bits to use between it and your Anthem.

I've got an 18" Scandal gathering dust in the shed. Really nice light frame, very capable. Keep thinking I should turn it into a gravel bike or something but it's unlikely to ever happen.

Should be able to find a PP Shan frame kicking about  - and you can borrow it to go dicking about in the woods 😉

You can buy 27.5 dropouts too if you ever want to upgrade it

Something with a proper sized seatpost. I got a mk1 Soul (mostly because I had one back in the day) and everything was fine except for bloody 27.2 seatposts and crappy droppers.

That Slackline looks like an awesome buy but will it be OK with your fork? IIRC pre-X Anthems were 80mm standard and Xs 100, maybe you can change the length but I think the Stanton was designed for 140mm.

(I have a 130mm or 140mm maybe QR TALAS 32 somewhere you can have for peanuts, out of that Soul, but tbf it wasn't very good in 2010. TBH I'm sure loads of stw people have random old revs and sektors and pikes that we can't bear to part with even though they're worth 10p.)

Surly Bridge Club and also Surly Lowside are available new - depends if you want suspension or not, sizing, and what standards you are running + also what she wants to use it for.
