Racing is always a mixture of highs and lows, but not often this high or this low. Here's the full story of how it went for me (It's a nice long one but there's plenty of pictures) Many, many thanks to lots and lots of very lovely people.

Excellent write up Sir. Congratulations on your result, seems like quite a blast and a fantastic bunch of people.
How long is a lap and how many did you get in over the time? Also the Le Mans run seemed excessively long. 😯

Thanks 🙂
A lap was 7ish miles, 1,100ish feet of climbing. I managed 27 in 24h41m. Wim did 29 in 24hfiftysomething, I Steve did 32. The leading geared riders were well into the thirties, Cory Wallace did 38 and Gaia Ravaioli 32. Tough course, not as much climbing as Relentless in total but it was steeper, only two fireroad sections for a bit of respite, it's a lot of singletrack
I do a fair bit of fell running so actually really enjoyed the run, the only chance I've got to be at the front of a World Champs, everyone else can beat me on a bike! I think I was in a minority enjoying it though...

Excellent blog, thanks for sharing.

Why are you using inner tubes & not tubeless?

Thanks guys 🙂 The world champs is in Fort William next year if I've managed to inspire anyone. No need to qualify or be selected or anything like that, just enter and have a go.
Qwerty, I've considered the idea and can see the benefits but I've seen so many people struggling at races and inummerable posts on here, on the facebook and various other places about the issues people have had trying to get tyres to seal and all the faffing with compressors and air-shot gadgets and things and that keeps putting me off, eben if they are OK once they are finally on. I change tyres a lot and can't really face the agro. Maybe if I could have a set of wheels with each kind of tyre that would persuade me...
Maybe I'm just a luddite though (I am a singlespeeder after all), that bike was a 26", my geared MTBs are all 3x9. Until that race I'd had 23" bars, just swapped to a 'modern' 710mm bar so I'm catching up a wee bit. Having said that, the wide bar is my first piece of modern tech since about 2010 and it got a medal on it's first outing, maybe there is something in this new-fangled stuff after all...
My van is tubeless 😉
