I know there are a few people on here who've done it before. Can you do it on a provisional BC licence, or do you need the full £70 jobby?

I know you can also race "non-competitive" but a) we'd then need doctor's certificates, which normally cost money plus a bit of a palaver, and b) we're certain to win, and I don't want to be accused of pot-hunting. 😉

Oh and feel free to add any other advice and experiences you've had. There are four of us going by train for a few days' riding over there, then the race, and I'm pretty excited. 🙂

I'm looking forward to being plied with espresso (and possibly grappa) instead of the usual Red Bull when I do my night laps.

Why not ask the organisers? Or is that too obvious an answer...

If it helps, for the mega the provisional was fine. I found that out by asking the organisers 😉

IA, there's a bit of a language barrier. Have a look at their website, the English version isn't even in English:

http://www.24hfinale.com/24h/blog.en.html

And none of us speak more than a few words of Italian. We've previously emailed them about camping and acommodation by getting someone's mum to draft an email for us, but it seems easier just to ask the fount of all knowledge. 😉

I did the Mega on a provisional licence too, hence I'm thinking it will be OK, but first-hand confirmation is always welcome.

Here's what it says on their website:

The event is open to membership cards of each body. The registration card must present a valid passport, while those who do not have the card must carry a certificate of fitness issued by AGONISTICA sports federation Sport Medicine. The category EX 12 (EXtraterrestri) can participate with general medical certificate attesting to the suitability sport not racing. The teams EX 12 (EXtraterrestri) participate outside standings.

All cards which are not AGONISTICHE not UCI / FCI / UISP / UDACE must be accompanied by a medical certificate.

In the team it is allowed the entry of professionals, semi-professionals, amateurs.
The minimum age for registration as a member of a team is 14 years, but the minor must present the entry, as well as card or valid medical certificate, with the permission of a parent or those who deputise to attend the event.

You have to sign a Indemnification exhaust responsibility, which you can read the content in facsimile you find on the site. For minors this must be signed by a parent or by those who deputise.

Clear as mud, yesno?

I reckon we just go with the BC bronze provisionary licence or whatever it's called.

There is a doctor on campus to check your blood presure and give you a certificate for 50 Euro.

Alternatively write a letter yourself with an NHS logo on it in a fake doctor name and that will suffice.... well it did for some of our guests.

Its only the Italians that have to have a proper certificate...Stranieri can have anything really.

The race is at Le Manie and not Finale Ligure, its about a 20/30 minute cab ride. You can camp there no problem, take plenty of lights and if you want to sleep then take some ear plugs and a eye mask as the germans camp set up is like a mini city with generators and flood lights!!!!!

Sopra tutto, Buon divertimente, forse ci vediamo al gare.

Ciao
