Hi there,

I'm struggling to find many tyres for my daughters 24" isla bike in the 1.5-2" width. Her current tyres have worn and are only about 1.35" wide, so looking for something relatively fast rolling for day-to-day communting but that offer a wee bit more cushioning (and possibly grip) off road.

Seen these which look like a possibility: https://www.schwalbe.com/en-GB/tour-reader/land-cruiser-plus.html. The black jacks look a wee bit heavy? https://www.evanscycles.com/schwalbe-black-jack-active-kevlar-guard-wired-24-mountain-bike-tyre-EV204408

Thanks for you help.

Andy

I put 24” Rocket Rons on my sons bike - they wouldn’t be first choice if he was doing any amount of riding on the road but are fantastic off road. Relatively light and under 16 quid each from Bike Discount .de

Ah... seems they’re 2.1 so might be a tad fat.

I'd definitely recommend the 2.1 Ron's. They fit fine on an islabike (see my pics in the for sale add) and work well off and on road. Much better than the stock small block 8's.

Thanks for the tips, sadly out of stock at the mo. They are definitely an option if available. Wonder if there is anything with a slightly smoother central tread pattern though?

Although not that trendy Schwalbe Land Cruiser tyres are ace, not too heavy but pretty sturdy and will go on all sorts of terrain. I’ve put them on all sorts of bikes and they just work. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them myself as a great value do anything tyre.

There's quite a few choice on Wiggle, but very hard to find on their site.  I found the best way was to google "24" kids tyres" and found some Schwalbe Black Jacks on Wiggle that way on Saturday.   Currently discounted also, I paid £8 for a 20" and £12 for a 24" tyre.

I've just taken some brand new Small Block 8's of my sons Orbea MX24, he mostly rides offroad so I've set up his bike with 2.1 Rons running tubeless. If you're interested in the Kenda's please get in touch.

I put 2 Black Jack's on my lads. Really good and nice and wide too. Transformed his confidence compared to the stock spesh tyres that were on it.

I thought that'd be the case with mine.   My son - 9yo - is racing hard now and the front Kenda OEM is not cutting it.  My 5yo daughter has just inherited his 20" Islabike, and I discovered the rear had bald patches on the rear from his skidding, so I'll swap the front onto the rear and stick the 20" Blackjack on there.

I've got a pair of unused continental explorers, if any else needs 24" tyres, £15, they dont fit on my lads rims, (sun singletracks).

I just had a pair of 2.3" geex tattoo for my daughter's bike tenner for the pair from OO/PX.

They are really Dirt Jumping tyres and have no knobbles so still seem to come up with plenty of clearance (charge cooker 24)... Definitely do for faster rolling summer tyres with a bit more volume.
