Off to the Alps and am looking at the tyre pile, I know that 717 rims can take 2.2 tyres, but Rubber Queens are a bit special when it comes to sizing, any experiences?

Wi I meet a grizzly death with a smile on my face?

I've run 2.35s on 717s. Does anyone anywhere have any horror stories about running wide tyres on narrow rims? I've never heard any.

My Missus runs 2.3 Conti Verticals on 717's. Never been an issue.

RQs are substantially deeper than Verts, but not massively wider (those Germans have awfully imprecise tape measures).

I've run 2.4 RQs on 819s in Spain and lived to tell the tale - my guess is that you'll be fine.

I've run 2.3s on my 717s for years. Contis, Halos, Kenda to name a few brands. Only once did I have a tyrewall prolapse and that was with some Conti Verticals. Got a few dings tho'
