Whelp! I've seen the prices of some of the new Konas next year and it's pretty bonkers

Funny thing is the konas have a lower spec models that are over a grand cheaper but full deore instead of NX , which would suit me fine!

The same as the new Transitions, Yeti money!

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/new-transition-smuggler/

I can see medium sized bike companies like these really being squeezed by the bigger ones if the cost increases are across the board

I see Santa Cruz offering 20% off a lot of current models. Seems squeezing money supply does reduce the price of goods (till the overstock has gone)

The Tranny prices in Europe for 2023 are insane. I love my Spur but wouldn't dream of buying one at the current RRP.

I'll be dealing with this crisis by not paying attention. I just bought a bike in a sale and I'm done spending money for the foreseeable future.

I got 32% off an Orange Alpine Evo direct from Orange.

I saw 23 model Oranges with 20% off already so I'm hopeful prices will be coming down across the board.
The dollar is both too strong and becoming worthless at the same time so American brands are having to charge crazy amounts. But they aren't going to sell much in a market where people are short of cash and everyone already bought a bike in lockdown. Something will have to give soon

We've actually reduced our base prices for 2023 which reflects lower costs from parts suppliers. We're seeing prices fall by 5-10% on a range of stuff that had jumped during covid. Unfortunately the currency is not helping but at least its relatively stable at the moment, even if we could do with the £ being a bit stronger.

This is exactly why I decided to go frame only and transfer components.

The combination of super variable prices, poor second hand market and some great frame deals made it a no brainer. Maybe I'll get a new bike next year instead..!

recentish pinkbike podcast was talking about taiwanese factories having to set up temporary warehouses to deal with excess stock theyve produced on back order from covid, so I could definitely see some discounts coming down the pipeline, potentially a grey import bonanza for CRC & on ebay etc

looks like chain reaction has massively overstocked on vitus and nukeproof,
gonna annoy the np dealers, as they aint gonna be able to compete.

SC 20% off, i've had similiar for specialized, prices then seem more inline with pre-pandemic, good to see merlin are fully stocked on grey shimano..

back to £12.50 for a deore 12s chain and deraillers well under £100

Canyon have a decent sale on (and already cheap comparatively)

Sadly the Canyon sale is finished and I missed out. Would this be a sale related to the oversupply situation at the minute or was this a normal spring sale for canyon?

I'm seeing the opposite of the OP - almost every shop and brand has a 'sale' on. Reducing prices by 10or20%. Theres absolutely loads of bikes in sales - it seems to only be specific new models that are listed at full RRP, many because that are being late released. Transitions Relay comes out in June and is at silly money, where as the Repeater can already be had for 20% off.

Unfortunately the excess discounted new bikes (and cost of living) has also cut the cost of 2nd hand bikes and parts.

Now is the best time to buy, hopefully there's enough discounted ones so we can give the newer models a miss, that way companies end up reducing that lot too when they can't shift them, prices are getting silly and there's no justification, time to take a stand.
Shimano made an absolute killing in 2022, plenty others did too.

In November past i bought a Specialized Rockhopper Expert (2022 model). Had 40% off. In fact i bought 2, because i got 2 bikes for the price of 1 effectively.
Went into LBS at weekend to get an eBike firmware update, loads of bikes in there on sale. Lots of discounted choice on the market online and in store.

Might be time to look elsewhere than Kona then Kimbers? They have been looking increasingly uncompetitive on price and mediocre in quality in recent years, IMO.

I believe NP dealers have access to the same stock at the same prices. Happy to be corrected though.

my local shop couldnt match CRC nukeproof prices when i enquired (was for a mega 290 frame). Maybe full builds offer better discount?

I went with a Vitus Sommet 29 CR in the end. £1800 for a carbon front/alloy rear Enduro bike. Mediocre parts for sure, but plenty of scope to upgrade as and when (plus i have some decent parts to put on it). Makes you wonder if they are selling at a loss?!

Is that a very deliberate use of "a"?

I just ordered a Spur. Been looking for a new bike for about 3 years so as soon as one was available I paid a deposit without even looking at the price. Just so happy something is finally in stock in my size.

Great deal, but I don't think they'll be losing money on it.

CRC/Vitus are ordering direct from the factory and there are no distributors or bike shops in the chain to add a layer of cost.

Are they? Whilst I get hotlines* and chiggle might** be under the same ownership and potentially holding stock under the same roof even, I'd have still expected crc to be ordering through them.
That and crc are the "bike shop in the chain adding a layer of cost" assuming they're cutting out distribution they're still just a reseller, not the fabricator.

*i believe its hotlines that distribute NP.

**not sure if they are to be honest

I went for an even more of a bargain nearly new Escarpe CR. Still more expensive than the 50% of new rule of thumb, but realistically who's going to sell a carbon framed 150mm travel 29er with 12speed, 4-pot brakes, 170mm dropper, etc for less than a grand!

Seems like there's a rapidly growing gap between RRP's and 2nd hand prices, which would hint at it being a lean year for bike shops if you take the 2nd hand prices as an indication of what the market actually thinks bikes are worth. Having said that you literally struggle to get in the door of my LBS recently as the shop floor is packed with bikes in for servicing. Anecdotally they had a mix of money-rich & time-poor riders bringing in the really expensive bling bikes and E-bikes almost weekly for a basic service, brake bleed, or whatever. And quite a lot of 2nd hand MTB's comning in for the full works (i.e. people who wanted that 'new bike' feeling, but getting it by buying it for 50% RRP and then spending £400 on suspension servicineg, new cables, brake bleed etc)

let us know how you get on with it @v7fmp

i'm very tempted to get the vitus as a bigger bike, price makes sense and new hope brakes/rotors would do me.

certainly beats me trying to justify the Yeti sb enduro bike spend at £8 or 9k

Are they?

Yes.

Vitus is direct sales only and they money all goes in the same pot.

Ah, yeah, for some reason I thought it was a comment about the NP mentioned further up, not the vitus referenced in your post.🤦‍♀️

Never!! Actually Im quite happy for people to think that, means they end up heavily discounted in the end of year sales, theres No way Im paying the present prices tho!
Spec wise they make some questionable choices all to keep within a budget , Id say with better wheels, slackset, brakes, drivetrain, dampers...... my Process is absolutely brilliant, that does only leave the frame itself, fork CSU & lowers, stem, seat clamp & dropper as the only OEM parts from when I bought it!

That vitus for 1800 is bonkers good value compared to every other big enduro bike out there!

Not sure about the Santa Cruz sale, also seem similar from an Evil email yesterday.

They seem to just be dumping the SRAM builds as theres new group sets imminent? Frame prices have stayed the same?
