New bike time riding a Trance 27.5 at the moment going to try a 29er and its between the Stumpy 29er expert ST or LT. Live in the Lakes so big ups and rocky downs not sure which one to go for any thoughts.

Is there an LT or is that just the normal Stumpjumper?

I'd go for that anyway, the big rocky downs will make it worthwhile. Having said that the ST would cope fine too.

get the lt and stick a 160mm for on it. thats what ive done and its brilliant.

its a proper trail bike (although very heavy) not an enduro bike depending on your needs

Go for the normal travel... I was toying between the 130 or 150mm travel, and glad i went for the 150...

Is it heavy??! I didn't think so, but it might be!

However, IF you went ST.. i've go the forks and shock off the 150mm version I'm looking to sell (I swapped for CCBD IL Air and Fox 36er forks)... then you've got both options sorted!

As far as I can see they are identical apart from the travel, which completely defeats the point from my viewpoint. So get the longer travel.

PS. I'm trying to buy one of these fir the missus, 650b, so if anyone has seen a size small anywhere then please tell.

Hmmm...dunno... a 130mm 29er trail bike is still a weapon, tbh...
I was really toying, but as I race enduro, and want to go abroad a bit more now, I opted for the longer travel (now with 160mm at the front..)

Here's some pics..not actually ridden the CC shock yet..took teh bike with Fox 36ers to BPW a few weeks ago...they are AWESOME!! But..it's also the first full susser i've ridden there, so that in itself was a treat!!

I'm guessing you've seen these with 40% off at evans. Can't say I wasn't tempted. I get an extra 6.5% off through work which would make it 2800 down from 5k!

Ruddy hell... that is a cracking price... I paid £2700 for my comp (which is same frame) a few months ago... eek!
I guess the upgraded bits (fork and shock) I've already done myself... but I don't half fancy those Roval carbon wheels!

I'm still on a 2016 carbon camber which has been heavily upgraded. The new one is only 10mm longer in reach so I can't see it being worth making a change. Carbon wheels would be sweet though!

We have the normal 29er built up from bits in the garage and a too good to miss secondhand frame. Went with the large as the medium felt small compared to the earlier model we have.
Takes everything in its stride from gentle pootles to big Alpine descents.

I'm assuming they're being dumped before the late spring upgrade that is strongly rumoured.

Yeah it’s the Evans deal from what your your saying the LT 150 travels the best option then, I suppose I was just wondering about the extra weight on the long climbs

Well..i'd probably do my Fox 34s and Fox Evol DPS rear shock for £400...so if you DID get the ST..for another £400 you'd have the LT version too 😉

Oh...went to Rogate DH yesterday with the new CCDB Air IL...it's amay-zinggggg!
So plush, yet despite big hits and drops etc, it never bottomed out..
Climb switch takes getting used to (as in, it's not a full lockout)..but all in, a lovely shock!

Brakes to Saints and wheels to Sixth Element. Got some spare S Works carbon bars to swap over.
Probably a couple of hours work to do.
Brakes will sell on but wheels will go as Abigales spares and her Sixth Element spares will go on it.
Think we will probably swap over the cranks for some SRAM carbons
Went with medium as she couldn't get on with the reach on her dads large.

Yes indeed. Got a confirmation email this morning for an order for the missus' Christmas present. Will try it out/ pick it up when we return from holiday.

Don't know for sure if she'll like it or not. Don't even know if her ideal bike actually exists this side of an S works. Her current bike is a probably ten year old Stumpy Epic with 26 wheels and fairly bling parts. I think it weighs about 12.5kg. she wants something that is the same weight but a bit more DH capable for keeping up with the weans in Tignes without trashing her knees.

We tried a stupidly bling Trek Ex 9.9 last weekend dripping with XX1 and carbon everything, but she wasn't sold on the position. I'm sure she'll love the position on the Stumpie Expert, but not sure she'll like the weight..... Guessing it's around 13.5kg with pedals...?

Hmmmmm

Medium Expert is supposedly 28.8lbs without tubes and the S Works 1lb lighter. ST is 0.6lbs lighter

Not bad weights for a trail bike

/ Google

Hmm, that does sound promising. Thanks for the info Tracey. As long as I weigh it on the right scales then it might be a goer 😋

What was the thinking behind you getting the ST rather than the standard one?
I'm guessing it wasn't the weight difference?

We have the standard one in a large which although Abigale is OK on it she feels that the reach is too much and thats with a 35mm stem.

She has fancied a shorter travel for a while for messing about on and at that price was worth a punt.

We have forks and shocks if she wanted to up the travel later but she thinks it will compliment her Enduro.

Need to start moving some other kit to new homes

Got back from Scotland earlier and Abigale had pulled together all the bits she wanted upgrading.

S Works carbon bars and Syncros stem
Saint brakes
SRAM carbon cranks
Sixth Element wheels with Butcher and Eliminator tyres.

Looks good all in black

Had to pass it to the wean to try to get a bit of air so we can see the logo properly.
Bit big for him still so didn't really work that well.

Sort of regret not buying one from Evan befoee they sold out. Shame they didn't do the st in that blue colour. That probably would have swung it for me!
