Evening
Waiting for my Chameleon frame to turn and just thinking about the build. After a few google searches I can’t find what headset it uses? Can’t afford a Chris king drop set 1 which Santa Cruz recommend so can someone point me in the direction of a cheaper equivalent please?

Thanks
Mat

I’ve built mine (2018, alloy model) with Hope pick and mix parts. This meant I needed a 7J combination which I think I ended up buying from 18 bikes as it was pretty much the only place that had both parts in stock (don’t trust the tredz website).

Thanks Bigginge, I have rooted through the garage and I think I’ve got the headset I need (measured with a vernier and measured up ok!) thanks for the hope reference as I think I will go that route when this one gets shagged through winter! Mines an alloy version too, how are you getting on with yours?

I’ve been very much enjoying it.

I initially built it up with some 130mm fox 34s and 29er wheels before temporarily sticking some 150mm 36s on it. For most of the local riding I do the 150mm forks were probably a bit much but it was still very good fun to rag around. It’s currently sitting in more pieces than it should be after the arrival of tinyginge No. 2, who has (as expected) cut back on my riding/tinkering time quite a bit.

PS. This was the 1st bike I’ve built with this type of integrated headset and it was a revelation when putting everything together. After I cut the steerer down and fitted the star nut everything just slid together without any more hammering/pressing/swearing. If only all bike assembly was that easy.
