Not sure whether it's been on telly before, purely by chance I noticed it in the listings. Froome's riding, as is Adam Yates.

PS the Women's Tour follows immediately afterwards.

Bad luck Kryton, guessing you didn't see any of the race then?

Anyone know about these two wheels at the front motorbike thingies alongside the race? Look very appealing I must say.

Just watching the Cyclopark highlights.  Not yet, its tomorrow it starts in Henley.  I should make it through town to get to the office in time to watch the start go past.

My claim to fame is Jnr on TV standing next to Marianne Voss when she was interviewed at the Waltham Abbey start some years ago.  That was the year our Club girls got to ride the route with Marienne - awesome.

Rumours of a broken leg and/or pelvis for Froome, if true there's no way he's riding Le Tour. What odds on Bernal winning it now?

Plenty of riders manning about the 7C cold weather and rain..

Bet Froomie is glad of going home.

Has Bernal recovered from the break that saw him out of the Giro? G to lead the tour team if Froome can't race, unless he has an awful showing at the Tour De Suisse

Bernal seems to have recovered, I'd imagine that G will be the formal leader with Bernal waiting in the wings, much like G was last year. Unless of course Poels is thought to be next in line but he seems more of a domestique to me.

OOOFT. That's a blow for Ineos. I think they'll have a decent idea of who's closest to peak out of G and Bernal, but i think G will get #1 jersey.

From Daniel Friebe

Brailsford says it’s ‘pretty clear’ Froome won’t ride the Tour. Has a suspected broken femur. Crash happened when he took hand off handlebars to clear nose on a fast section.

How on earth does froome keep falling off in time trials before the event has even started? Second time he's done it. If he's only having a reccy of the course how come he's pushing so hard as to fall off?

If he's broken his leg he'll not be riding for a long long time, and given he's getting close to the end of his career that may be it as far as grand tours go.

Oooh not good. If it's neck of femur, it may mean an operation and many months off the bike, not just weeks.

Geraint managed to stay on his bike last TdF. I think he can do it again.

froome soft peddling is probably faster than most amateurs balls out. Not a fan of Froome but you always want to see the best riders racing.

He was clearing his nose on a fast downhill section and wind caught his wheel (deep section on the front no doubt). Not sure how you can avoid such an event by even soft pedalling on one of those TT bikes.

I'd be surprised if it was only his femur that was hurt. Brailsford's comments suggest it's pretty serious..

Hope for a speedy recover.

Absolutely. No matter what you think of the riders, you want to see the gladiators battle it out in the arena. TdF will be less of a race without him. Femur will be a significant amount of time off the bike so that could well be him until next year...

I've not seen G racing this year, is he in shape?

Contador did something similar trying to get an energy gel from his back pocket at the Tour in 2014 - when he crashed and broke his leg. He hit a pothole just as he had one hand on the bars. These things are just bad luck unfortunately.

Vos is out of the womens tour after crash too...

https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/race-leader-marianne-vos-abandons-womens-tour-2019-high-speed-crash-426898

I wonder if Dumoulin will race the Tour now after he went home early from Giro? I like to see as many of the "big guns" line up as possible at the start of the Tour so bad news that Froome out, but it may make for more exciting race overall

On the subject of the Womens tour we were allowed out of the office to line the road outside and cheer the ladies.

Nice of one of the outriders to stop and have a chat to us, messages on car chalk Boards and Lizzie in the wheels.

Well he’s a new family, so could spend time playing with his kids and sit on a lounger by the pool.

Silver lining and all that.

🤷‍♂️

Not the best start for Ineos, guessing Jim Ratcliffe (sp?) wants the odd result for his huge amounts of wonga, Bernal crashes before Giro and Froome before Tour, and a poor show from them in the classics, means they may be feeling a bit of pressure.

He's leading the line at the Tour de Suisse next week, presumably with Bernal there as well. Looked basically strong but undercooked at Romandie - came third I think - but then he didn't need to be in peak form there. You'll get a better idea of where he is next week, this time last year he was winning the Dauphine, so if he's in similar shape, you'd expect him to be in that sort of form in Switzerland. I'm guessing that Tim Kerrison has a pretty good idea of how to deliver him to the Tour startline in optimum shape.

It's a shame Froome's out - would have been interesting to see what happened with him and G both going for the win - but there you go.

That’s what I was thinking as well. I know it sounds pathetic and all “look at me-ish”, but for some reason, Froome’s accident is really bothering me. I think having crashed the way I did, and the fact that I really like Froome, makes it feel close to home.

I know how SR feels having done the same. Hope he heals fast. I think it will be moot as to whether he races again this season. I did, without the femur but lots of other fractures.

Well he was third in today's TT, @ + 47', despite still feeling a bit iffy from the crash in the Giro and stating that he essentially did it on one leg, so he's got that going for him.

Which is nice.

Doesn't matter what shape/size you are, hitting a very large solid object at 60kmh isn't going to end well.

Just seen that Froome is in intensive care.

Poor chap. Having gone through some similar injuries myself, I know how hard it is to get mended and fitness back.

All the best to him for his recovery.

I suspect he'll mend well and given his fitness level I guess he won't suffer the amount of fitness loss that non-professional cyclists would. He'll also have access to the best medical and physio people to get him better quickly.
Saying that though, he still has a serious challenge to get back his confidence and race fitness...going to be tough for him as he has a higher level to get to.

Not knocking WvA jus think VdP’s palmares are better this year

Mind WvA has a very shaky start to the cross season (no team, nearly didn’t race, etc) so I’m not convinced we saw the proper match up. Next season will hopefully be better

Likely too chunky, would imagine he’ll have ago today, but that’s not really big

6ft and 80/78/73 kilos (depending on website 🙂 ) so if he's at the bottom of the range he's giving away 4 kilos to the likes of Froome and Dumoulin

I was road riding in the blazing summer Swiss Alps today as it happens - temperature in the suntrap switchbacks with the heat reflecting back at me was apparently high 30s low 40s according to my Wahoo and it certainly felt like it.

It absolutely chucked it down about an hour after I got in though, proper lightning storm and everything.

Sad to see Eurosport back to its demented worst with the scheduling. Show a race live for four or five days and then forget it for the weekend. They couldn’t even show the scheduled highlights in the afternoon.

Still, could be like when they showed an hour of Paris-Roubaix and then turned to the Finnish National Biathlon Championships (or something equally riveting), then back to P-R after all the key sections. 🙄

I watched the last 45km of yesterday on Eurosport? Or do you just mean that they didn't show enough?

The Eurosport scheduling has its moments and you can end up unexpectedly watching something random which turns out good. The final stage highlights were about 45 mins late last night thanks to the Women's Tennis (Nottingham Open). Turned out to be a great final (last set tie break) and I will be following Caroline Garcia more closely from now on;) A good outside bet for Wimbledon.

Tennis was better than the final stage of the Dauphine as it turned out. Van Barle looks like he's coming into form for the Tour though.

I didn’t see any live coverage in the schedule (and the box didn’t record any on series link..). I set the box to record the highlights but that recorded the tennis which was running late. I gave up at that point and watched the ITV4 coverage.

Annoyed me as well, but imagine if you were a big tennis fan and they cut the end off a live final you'd been watching 😡😡 Bumping the cycling definitely the lesser of two evils.

Same difference isn’t it. I’d spent every evening last week keeping up with the Dauphine only to lose the coverage over the weekend on what supposedly were the key stages. I might have been lucky enough to record a highlight programme today if I hadn’t seen the ITV4 coverage, but there’s no guarantee that I wouldn’t have recorded tennis again.
