There's a definite "changing of guards" feeling about this season.  Wouldn't bet against Gee, Greg (and possibly Rachel) retiring this year. After Greg; Gee is the next oldest at 33 and a 12th here is the best quali he's had all year so far. Both Greg and Arron (the next two oldest riders) are out injured...what have all three left to prove?

Well the ladies are off, Ravenel is picking up some pace considering how little she has ridden a DH bike

Greg certainly wants another World Champs and is capable of getting one, another couple on the wins to push the GOAT out a little further would keep him going. After the injury I wonder if he would like to go out on his own terms after a full season. He hasn't been off the pace when he was racing.

Saw the interview with Greg on cahtro, he just doesn't seem like who he was anymore. You just can't bounce back as you can in your 20's. The man has nothing to prove, he is the GOAT atm. I think nickc has it spot on.

That course looked nuts, 'controlled falling' was it described by Rachael last year?

Enjoyed the race runs, Tahnee put down a great run but what happened with Rachael? Lost the urge to win? Similar to Tracey Hannah in the World Champs last year surely they are used to jumping back on as quick as possible?

Happy for Loris, a well deserved win. I can see it being the first of many for him.

Just watched Wyn Masters round up from after the event.
A few riders saying that they'd had 'moments' in sections and then backed off so that they could make it down safely- including Phil Atwill who lets face it is a pretty balls out rider.
Scary looking track.

UK national championships

Titles are on the line in Scotland this weekend as the best downhill riders in the country compete at the HSBC UK | National Downhill Championships.
British riders have been in terrific form on the international circuit – but who will claim the right to be called national champion at Glencoe?

I watched that this morning. Those square edge rock gardens don't half look gnarly

Will be interesting to see some of Cathro's analysis on line choice through them

Excellent! Haven't been on Pinkbike this week so forgot this was on.

Still no course rides from Claudio?

Still no course rides from Claudio?

He/redbull sacked it off after his bleed on the brain. Sensible decision. FWIW someone like Gee did a more than admirable job there- seeing the course at pace (recovering from a broken hand too) was excellent. Personally, I'm getting sick of Claudio and the fanboy circus around him- I don't rate him particularly as a commentator either, he always seems a little flat, and would like to see him move on- they need some fresh blood in the commentary booth with Mr Warner. The previews were generally entertaining of course but alot seem to get VERY excited about him, which I've never understood. hey ho. Just my two pence!

Roll on MSA.

ps, Gwin not racing but currently on a 29" tues.. Source: his IG account.

The only thing more tense than the racing is waiting to see if Paton can type something rather than just pasting links 😉

the link so heroically pasted above says its live at 10:20pm UK time, is this live coverage of the qualifying? or am I too tired to spot the obvious and should just go to bed

I caught up on all the replays last night.

Pierron totally deserved that and it was about time Bruni stayed on his bike and showed what he can do.

Rachel Atherton showed the others that when she's on form they are all just competing for 2nd place. Nice to see Gee get a good result there too, I'd written him off as just making up the numbers lately.

Can anyone else find the recap? I can see the XCO, quali runs and winners runs (thanks for that RB) but I can’t find the races at all.

Gee's wrist is still broken. The same injury he's been racing with for the last 3 WCs

Great racing, good to see Greg back up to speed for a bit and Gee getting up there.

Pierron has just gong about it and mopped up there well done to him, hopefully this new generation can establish themselves now, worlds will be good

Great run from Rachael, held nothing back there, don't think she knows how to be honest. The top two seem in a different league to the rest of the field this year.

Well that was an unexpected victory in the mens, the course playing to his strengths I guess but wow how did he take that much time out of the best riders in the world? Gwinn's not quite back up to speed but got to agree with Claudio the scrub over that second jump was amazing. Pierron was on fire, pity he did a sam Hill. Second place for Gee pretty impressive, again though aybe showing fitness key to this track as well as skills

Can't wait for the worlds, Gwinn, Pierron, Bruni, Vergier, Macdonald, Brosnan - should be awesome

A combination of skill, pedalling and the luck of the draw being on the slickest mud I'd say, given how long the early times stuck up there it has to have something to do with it unless he spotted and executed a line nobody else did

Well, I am looking forward to this weekend.....

Course looks the usual brutal run.

I'm rooting/calling for Tanhee, for Danny and in junior mens a friends son Jamie Edmondson (5th WC overall).

Danny Hart or Brook MacDonald for me this weekend.
I think Brook would have won a couple of races if he hadn't crashed out in the first race.

Women's it'll be either Rachel or Tahnee - be nice if Tahnee got it.

Tahnee was 4 seconds up on Rachel at the 2nd split, then dropped behind her by the 3rd. I haven't seen the footage but it suggests Tahnee has the speed to match Rachel.

Judging by the comments on pinkbike Tahnee had a crash. It'd be great to see her win but I think some of the riders are holding back, and I bet Rachel is one of them.

Mens I'd say it's going to be French in the Mens, there is just so much momentum with Loic, Lois and of course Amaury. The 3 of them have the pace and the desire I reckon, Greg or Aron could be in there if they can lay down the perfect run.

Remember folks- don't just tune in for the top end like a lot of people do for the world cup- part of the joy of the champs is to see the knobbers crashing their way down the track first, it's good entertainment in its own right and it puts the actual race runs into better perspective.

Would love to see Brook and Tahnee win it but I think it will be one of the french lads. A high placing for Reece Wilson would also be a bonus.

Indeed. Luckily RBTV is covering it, as the commentary from the Beeb was slightly uninspiring, to say the least.

it's not really like that anymore. The days of the trinidad and tobagan bobsleigh team getting a start are long gone. Only 80(1) start finals so all (Qualified) starting men are faster than the fastest Woman these days.

Unless of course you think Rach is a crashing knobber and you could do better on your fatbike 😉

It was like that in 2012 with only 90 starters- was it the russian dude who was on the ancient sx trail and took 3 times as long to get down? And last year even with the much smaller starting field there were a bunch of men that were slower than the women (and IIRC some that just decided not to run). This year, we've got a dude whose crank dropped off and stopped to pick it up, that's world class.

Absolutely cack on BBC. Awful commentator. The footage so far isn't much good either, just the start and last section. Hopefully we'll see some of the actually interesting bits of track when the riders are more spaced out.

Course has camera points not continuous camera coverage.
You'll see more as the rider gaps increase.

Coverage is pretty good TBF

Only saw the mens, Finn Iles is so on the edge really wanted him to get it, blenki was deceptively slow and danny just need to stay off the brakes. He looks a bit like sam smith the singer.
