Hi,
My 2017 Whyte 605 came with WTB BeeLine 2.2" tyres. I'm looking to put something a bit wider on the front. Has anyone changed and if so what did you put on?
Thanks 🙂
Dunno if it's the same get, but I run a 2.4 HR2 up front on my 901.
Suits the bike really well 🙂
Rims are 19 mm inner width?
Clearance of fork / frame?
If there is enough clearance a 2.35 inch tire would be still fine for 19 mm rims.
Good tires for this time of the year: Magic Mary? 27.5 x 2.35
If the frame / fork won't allow for 2.35 inch tires and if you don't need these fat studs: Nobby Nic 27.5 x 2.25 ?
If 2.3 inch is possible WTB Vigilante? 27.5 x 2.3 Vigilante is a good pick.
Magic Mary and Vigilante: trail biking, all mountain stuff
Nobby Nic: not as fat studs as above - but definitely better tire than WTB BeeLine
Whyte states something about max tire sizes?
Right now 2.2 inch tires?
Rear: switch to the smallest gear possible. Check clearance to chain, chain stay and seat stay
Front: how much clearance is between fork and side studs of the 2.2 tires?
When moving up with the tire size leave enough 'safety'. A 2.3 inch tire might be bit wider than 2.3 inch...
I've got the same bike and I've put 2.35 tough toms on front and back.
Great!
2.35 inch will be much, much better than the original:
WTB BeeLine 2.2"
Again, if the frame is similar to the 901, be cautious of clearance on the back. I stuck a 2.4HR2 on the stock rims of my 901 (21mm internal I think) and it was buzzing the chainstays. The Ardent (possibly a 2.35? Can't remember, don't know if that even exists) I put on there instead is very close as well.
You might be ok with a narrow 2.35, but something like a Magic Mary would have no chance.
Thank you guys for the help and guidance. Think I might play it safe and go with 2.3, something like the Vigilante.
Great!
Something you might consider:
WTB Vigilante 27.5 x 2.3 in CLINCHER TIRE version.
Won't be as low weight and "great" like the folding vigilante (?).
But got a clincher version in winter sale. An it's great!
O.k. - not so easy to get on and off the rim.
But for the money A BLAST.
