Due to my lad jumping and landing stuff like this, i'm thinking he deserves the chance and opportunity to get something a bit bouncier.

2020-02-08_12-18-48 by Steve Weeks, on Flickr

One of these has come up in the right size, so i'm thinking the 150-160 travel over his, would be of great benefit. Sure he's only 11, but he's got the right attitude and the right aptitude i'd argue too.

Specs below, but i'm guesing it's pretty much stock.
Small Suspension aluminium Frame
11 speed (11x1) Sram GX Rear and shifter
Specialized Roval wheel-set, run true
Full set of SRAM Guide R Hydraulic disk brakes, work well
150mm RockShox Revelation RL Forks, fully working, with Lockout adjust
RockShox Monarch RL shock with firmness and rebound settings - Operates smoothly and as it should.
Specialized 2.3 Mountain Tyres, good used condition

Specialized Comand Dropper Post fitted, fully working

I don't know a lot about them though... So any education would be appreciated.

Spec looks ok. Id be more concerned about the frame size as the small is tiny. Assuming its a 650b.
How tall is he,

They are a tidy bike, light and easy to throw about

Need to get round to selling this

He's 11 years and it seems 154cm give or take

That's 5'1-2".

Sizing chart says 5'2 to 5'5"

Stumpy of that age are small and top tube is on the short side. Think the small has a 15.5" seat tube.

Has he had a go on it. How much seat post is exposed. The pic shows bike set up for a 5' 5" rider an theres a fair bit of post out.

Nope, it came on pinkbike today

https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2720221/

Guy isn't far away though.

His current bike is a Liv Embolden 2 2017 in a small if that helps to compare

TT 553 Spec

Reach 408 Liv
Reach 388 spec

I wouldn't want to be going smaller with a growing lad assuming that his existing bike isn't too big for him

Stumpy medium
TT 587
Reach 414

Sitting chatting with my boy today and going through the Specs on various bikes, i think we're still going to view this Small. Even though it shows the reach as being 20mm smaller, it's got higher rise bars along with them being wider too, plus a very short stem so not insurmountable for us to add 20mm.

We've had him sitting on the wifes Liv Embolden E+ today which we've got the geometry for and it feels too big, the sizing for that is VERY similar to the M in the Specialized and also in the Nukeproof Mega, which is one of the others we've been considering. They're all very similar in Reach and TT length in Mediums and seeing him riding the Embolden E+ along with the Medium T-130 last weekend i think it would be a mistake for now to go to the M.

Sure, we may only get 12 months out of the Specialized, but that's OK. He's growing and the swapping/changing process is just one of them things we have to go with for now.

Not sure how or why the calculation went wrong above, but the Stumpy is a decent bit bigger than his. Added to the fact he took the Liv off us for £500 means the specialized is now in our car and we're heading home with it

Now collected, Taped, mudguard, cleaned, pads, levers done, suspension set, dropper pressure set and tested in the close. Boy loves it.

Yesterday when i said it MAY get expensive.

Bloke was a youngish lad, about 21-23 i guess, he buys and sells bikes. Not sure if as a hobby or to make a living.

http://www.snazzybikes.co.uk/home

I'd stuck the Liv up for £550 on STW forum and he gave me £500 in P/X on the new Specialized, so was an absolute non-discussion there. The Specialized is in exceptional condition i have to say and even with me riding it, it rides LOVELY !

It having the SRAM Guides (Same as mine) along with same axles, same wheels/tyre sizes and even the same 11 speed groupset, means any issues or changes that are required can be done easily and without issue. So it was swapped over and is now ready for BPW on the 21st. Sadly as he's going away for half term, i can't see it being done before then.

Nice looking wee bike, my youngest had a Stumpjumper in small when he was about that age. Great little bike easy to ride and handle.
He managed to get it on the podium regularly in some of the gravity series mini downhills against lads on DH bikes, I think the fact it was lighter and more manoeuvrable.

Tubeless done on both wheels, along with removing the plastic cassette thing.

This bike does change some plans for me now as it's running an XD hub as is my G160, so the Hope Pro4s may as well get an XD hub too so it can swap easily between either bike.

The Pro4 front I'm debating how I do it, with a 5mm converter kit or maybe Pro4 end caps and a redish. Ummmm.

Lol he's 11, he cared for about 3 minutes then went to play Xbox. I'm sure once we get it to Afan and BPW in 11 days time he'll appreciate it though.

Why's that then matey? I've been running the front with the spacer kit and disc spacer for a while, but my mate needs that kit now for the Fox 34s he's having off me. I never noticed any downside from the spacers apart from the obvious bit of them falling out when taking wheel out etc.

I'm actually wondering if I should just suck it up and flog my 100 and 142 pair and just buy a dedicated set of boost ones?

My lad took it to the local woods for jumpy fun. Came back telling my it's absolutely brilliant. Said the levers were slightly different reach, which they were! So good he's picking these things up.
Jumps brilliantly apparently.

I reckon we can drop a few psi out both ends but we'll see when my Shockwiz comes back

I never noticed any downside from the spacers apart from the obvious bit of them falling out when taking wheel out etc.

Front isn't so bad as there's less in the way. Rear is more difficult. Imagine getting a puncture and dropping a spacer in long grass or a puddle.

My advice is buy the hopes and its "fit and forget"

Although, if he's giving it beans it might be better to sell them and buy boost so they are stronger.

Ps, I have the same bike in xl.

Aye, I've now sold the wheels to a mate, so looking and debating a new pair. He's got Rovals on specialized hubs I think, I've got WTB on my G160. We're both happy with standard so likely just pick up 2 wheels someone is selling from a bike as spares just in case we need a wheel short term.
Tbh I don't think either of us do justice to fast light wheels in many ways.

"daddy daddy, the bike is brilliant" was the report from bike park Wales yesterday. Suspension seems great and it jumps and pops like a good un. At times, keeping up with the boy wasn't exactly easy!!! We did lose a bolt for the shifter in whatever the new type thing is that bolts it to the same thing. But that was quickly replaced and straight back out. He has a blast on it.
