Hovering over a new Cotic Soul frame to build up as a light xc/trail bike. Can't find any reviews out there on the 2017 model, so thought i'd come to the hive and seek thoughts.
Hopefully be doing the demo at Hadleigh, but i'm not sure i can wait that long.
What are peoples actual experiences on the bike? I want something for ripping around local xc routes rather than big days at BPW etc. Cheers.
Is 2017 Pre or post the long shot geometry?
I have the new soul. Built it up with a 120mm pike debonair, full xt and dt swiss xm481 rims on hope hubs. I built it to do everything from quick xc to natural snowdonia stuff.
Previous bikes include a chromag wideangle and a few 150-160mm fs bikes. I will directly compare between the chromag and the cotic.
The chromag was a fun bike, the frame was super stiff and could take some serious abuse. I had a 160mm pike and a 130mm pike on it. Was unbelievable down hill. For some reason I never gelled with it don’t think its climbing was particularly good so sucked the fun out of half the ride.
The cotic is a seriously fast bike on the climbs. It just feels right. My position on the bike is perfect and I’m beating my previous times with ease. Downhill the bike is a lot of fun. Its probably not as quick as the chromag, it takes a bit more finesse and you have choose your line a bit better but for a 120mm xc/trail bike its a belter. I keep having to remind my self that its only 120mm as it punches above its travel. I think they got the geometry spot on.
Its the only bike I have built and set up and not had to tweek or adjust anything. It was instantly comfortable and felt right.
Post. Its the new frame in the bling bling silver and 148 rear i'd be looking at.
Demoed one at Haldon a few weeks back and thought it was ace. Shame I was so unfit as couldn't push it as hard as it wanted to go. It is springy frame.
I've got one. I did type a long post about it, then tried to add a pic from Instagram at which point it all got lost.
Get one, they're great, does what it says on the tin.
Nice feed back - thanks all. Decisions, decisions - silver/orange or silver/magenta, first world problems here!
This is mine
No mercury/orange in medium otherwise I would have got one. Glad they didn’t tho as I saved a bit on not getting the orange hope stuff.
I demoed one at their open day a couple of weeks ago.
It felt sprightly on the way up compared to my old cove. On the downs it flew down a loose rock descent ploughing over stuff way better than I expected, without being knocked off line, it felt like it could have gone a lot faster but I didn't know the route and I wasn't sure how much grip I'd got.
I'd gone there to try and convince myself that my old cove HJ was fine, and all this new geometry / bigger wheels wasn't needed......
Sufficient to say I'm now trying to work out which of the kids I can sell to fund a nice gold build - oh and silver /orange obviously.
