I've got a 2017 Caad12 disc (ultegra) and looking to upgrade the wheels. Now on some reviews it says this has an 'assymetric rear triangle'.

I've been looking at various options, some custom, some off the shelf and aiming for a set around 1500-1600g, tubeless compatible.

Now, my question comes to off the shelf/factory wheels, will these need dishing to get the correct offset for the rear? If so how much is it and I assume the original spokes should cope with this? Or have I got this wrong?

Also what would be the max tyre size, has anyone fitted a set of 30's to theirs? I'm sure I read it was possible, but I suposss it depends on the specific rim/tyre combo for how big they come up.

Cheers.

Can’t say I’ve seen that comment in the review, or anyone saying you can’t run standard wheels.

I picked up a 2017 caad12 105 Disc today - I swapped out the standard wheels for some Hunt 4 Season road wheels. They are sub 1600gs and cost £299. There is another set for £399 that go just sub 1500g - Hunt aero lite or something like that.

The rear wheel looks like it’s in the middle of the dropouts and the bike shop (a decent one) didn’t say anything.

Cheers Joe, very helpful. I've been looking at Hunts, prime from crc and some custom ones from cycle clinic (Malcolm Borg) whom is very helpful.

I'll have a Google to see where I got the assymetric thing from, they also mentioned something when I picked the bike up too.

I’ll have a proper check of the bike tomorrow to make sure the wheel is where it should be! The bike shop are a proper Cannondale dealer and the caad is probably one of the cheapest bikes they sell as they’re quite high end I’d say.

The other wheel options suggested were Mavic Krysiums and the Hope 20Five. However it was advised both those wheels are more expensive, and heavier. The Hunts were a no-brainer for the money.

This is the best picture I have so far of the bike with the wheels on it. The seatpost is ludicrously high for some reason - I’ll have to drop it at least 3 inches or more I think.

I can't seem to find the info I was referring to now Joe, let me know how you get on. Have you ridden it with the Hunts? You gone tubeless on them?

Not had a chance to ride it yet, I picked it up on the way home from mountain biking. Will commute to work on it Monday which’ll be my first ride I’d imagine.

It’s not tubeless at the moment - the tyres aren’t tubeless ready. Couldn’t bring myself to spend the money on tubeless ready tyres at the moment. When the current tyres wear out / if they’re really as bad as they’re meant to be I may go tubeless next time. I’m tubeless on my main mtb so curious about road tubeless definitely.

Looks good, especially in those colours. Is that a 2017 or '18 model?

I've really enjoyed riding mine and think for the money (2017 discounted model) probably can't be beaten. The stock wheels don't do the rest of it justice though 🙂

I think it was just the SuperX that had the asymmetric.

Hi,

I think it's the Super X your thinking of with the dished rear wheel. I also stuck some Hunts on my CAAD12 Ultegra Disc and love them, didn't go tubeless but went with latex tubes.

I am wondering if anyone has tried a 28/30c tyre on there CAAD12 as looking to do the same, tried another rear wheel with a 28c on and it might do a 30c but it's the front that looks like it would be pushing it.
