I have a 180mm fox 36 in the shed, which I'd like to reuse on a shorter travel bike for my son.
The forks have an older style air spring adjustable from 180 down to 160 using metal spacers. Wondering if I can just pull that out and fit one of the newer 150mm air springs... anyone done this?
I'm curious about this as well. I bought a 2018 170mm fox 36 fork for my sduro and was going to do the same thing but that's been shelved for now since we aren't using the bikes at the moment. Still like to know what's involved though.
NA2 Float EVOL air sprung assemblies won’t fit pre-evol forks, if that is your question.
You might have an easier time with a 2018... thinking back, I think the 2016/17 design might lack a dimple on the stanchion that allows the newer style spring.
Metal spacers are now no longer available for the 2015-17 fork. If I was you I would just lower the transfer rod down to 160mm travel and have a larger negative air chamber. You will need to compress the fork when filling it to set it at 160mm travel but it will settle at 160mm travel and won't extend any longer than its set to.

Yeah, had concluded that myself... remembered the needle thing attached to the top cap when I changed travel.
Can't seem to find a 2016 spring assembly anywhere.
@Rick I have one spacer, as I bought 170 originally, and can get more online, so can get to 160 OK, but ideally I'd go to 150 or even 140, which the current spring won't allow
Ah, Silverfish have ran out of them so buy them if you can get them. I would still do the transfer rod trick, it gives a plusher initial stroke.
If it helps I have a metal spacer for the earlier ones, you can have for postage cost of a couple of quid it is brand new.
