Need advice as limited experience with all things suspension, I have a 2015 Pike RC which is very nice however adjusting the compression switch from open to 'lockout' seems to make very little difference to the action? Is this usual or is there a fettle required?

The compression circuit in the RC damper is stiffer than the RCT version. The RC has a smaller range of adjustment and it seems the chose to make the RC match the RCT at the lock out end, but not go as soft at the open end.

It's possible to reshim the compression stack to move the whole range towards softer which is something I've done for a mate before. However, paying to get it done probably takes you half way to an upgraded RCT damper anyway.

The characteristics of my fork is that there is no discernable difference between open and lockout?

I did a lower fork service yesterday but they have always been the same since new?

No difference in that it's all stiff, or all soft?

Has it always been like this, or has it changed recently?

A lowers service doesn’t affect the compression circuit.

If they’ve not had a full service in the last 12 months, that would be the thing to do imo.

I can recommend Ric @ slickandslide.co.uk

top bloke, great service and normally a very quick turnaround and he really does know his stuff

Would like to know if this is the norm or if there is a problem with this - it's never stopped me riding?

I had a RCT3 and the compression lever one day stopped having any effect at all. Sent them back for warranty and got a brand new one in return.

On mine the firm setting was pretty firm, not full lockout but not something you'd want to do any descending on.

When ‘locked out’ you will still be able to compress them some but it should feel REALLY firm and stiff. They don’t lock out solid.

When fully open they should feel plush and smooth

If they feel plush and smooth in both lockmout and open positions, I’d guess there is some sort of problem.

How do they feel compared to friends forks?

Definitely should be a noticeable difference. In the closed position it will feel a lot firmer and hard to push down. Everything else is a progression to soft. That said I left mine in full open most the time.

My old 26 Pike RC went like this after a number of years just feeling soft in any setting. I'd never bothered with a damper service. They're kind of retired now but I may do a full service on it anyway to learn how to service a charger damper (which varies in instructions from simply bleeding to pull apart, replace bits, fresh oil and bleed).
