wanting to remove (clean and regrease) my headset bearings but they seem to be pressed in quite firmly. On my other bike the HS bearings just drop out but on my Capra they do not! The frame has metal inserts, followed by a plastic cup/insert followed by the bearing. Do I just knock out the bearing or will doing this also result in the plastic cup coming out? I'm worried I might need a press to get the bearings/plastic insert back in.
Anyone done this before and know the drill?
Thanks
With my Capra AL from that same year, the original headset had bearings which were machine-pressed into the race, so couldn't be removed. I replaced them with Hope which can be.
A lot of YT headset bearings are a press fit into the cups.
I knock out the inner race, remove the bearings and seals then use a blind puller to remove the outer race. The new bearings then need pressed in.
Its an annoying design.
