A friend had the 2013 models both as demo bikes and I took each of them out for a ride. I thought the Whyte was great and really enjoyed it, pretty much disproved all my preconceptions about 29ers. My only real criticism was that the wheels felt fragile and i could not imagine them lasting. The Scott, a Genius but cannot remember which model (carbon fibre) had lots of buttons and wires but felt awful and confirmed all my preconceptions about 29ers.
My friend bought the Scott and is very, very happy with it three months on.
Not sure that this is very helpful but does show that we are not all the same.
For what it's worth I have the Whyte and with the original wheels it felt flexy .. however I fitted some Mavic Crossmax ST and the bikes transformed ... What a difference !
So to follow the previous point the wheels let it down but if you can set spare cash aside to upgrade then its really very good.
Sorry I can't feedback on the Scott
