Having just bought a Spicy 514 frame, I keep hearing that I can use the shock from a Zesty 160mm on my frame effectivly giving me 2 bikes in one.
Does anyone know where I can source such a shock and if not, what the size of the shock on the Zesty is so I can hunt one down?
Cheers,
D
I thought the Spicy was 160mm, isn't the Zesty 140mm?
Not sure it's that simple - think the linkages are a little different.
That said - a 514 frame would be a Zesty, and the Zesty is 140mm, not 160, so you sound all sorts of confused.
Zesty used to be 140mm on the front, spicy 160mm. I'm sure that 2013 Zesty's are 150 up front now though but as for the frame, I believe that if the only difference between zesty/spicy is the shock. The latter using a smaller blanking cartridge to allow for longer travel.
I was tempted to buy one because if you ever feel like the Zesty doesn't have enough travel you can add more on the rear without changing the frame.
a 514 frame would be a Zesty
I don't think that's true, I've got a Spicy 514 (2012) i.e. It's not a Zesty

You don't have a Spicy 514. You either have a Spicy 516 or a Zesty 514.
^^^^^^ what he says
I'm not sure of the sizing of the zesty shock, maybe 200 x 57 at a guess. What you will need to do is get some offset bushes (think its burgtec that make them) this will then allow you to run the smaller shock as they alter the I2I dimensions.
If I'm not mistaken all the bikes ending in 4 are Zestys, as in 140mm travel and all the bikes ending in 6 are Spicys as in 160mm travel.
The first number i.e. the 9 in 916 denotes the spec level i.e. 516 is the mid spec Spicy and 916 the top spec Spicy.

You're not mistaken
The 2012 Lapierre frames could be converted to run 140mm or 160mm.
You needed a different shock mount or linkage and different shock size.
Not 100% sure about the 2013 frames.
You don't have a Spicy 514. You either have a Spicy 516 or a Zesty 514.
D'uh ! you're quite correct , it's a Spicy 916. I'll go away now.
You can convert a 2012 spicy to 140mm travel by using the longer shock 'extension' from a 2012 Zesty & a 200 x 56 shock .. the linkage is the same.
For the guys who 'passed the test' [url=
]THIS[/url] is for you. 🙂
For those who got my drift and offered a constructive responce, I thank you.
Apparently, you do need a different shock as well as the adapter between the linkage & the lower shock mount.
When I find the definitave answer, I'll let you cats know. 8)
