I have the possibility of building up a 2010 Orange P7
Did anyone have one ?
Is it worth spending out on a bike this old ?
Should I focus on a newer better geometry bike ? Its a 26 er
The frame is in very good mint condition
I had a 2008 one, last year i stuck some new forks on it and gave it a refresh with shorter stem, it rode really well and tbh I’m wondering why i got rid.
Do it.
On the cheap.
I had an 09 one, t'were awesome. If only I'd got the 21" instead of the 19 I'd still have it.
i had a white one, don't remember what year. it rode pretty well but was heavy and then it cracked either side of the chainstay bridge on the DS. i think the earlier ones were pre-CEN so will be fair bit lighter probably.
What do you want to use it for?
I moved the drop outs back ,added a rigid 29er fork and ran CX wheels on mine for commuting.
Worked all right.
My son now uses it as a town bike.
Yep great bike, i mit’s mine, it went everywhere Wales,Scotland, Cannock lol
Tempted to get a new frame to build at some point, if only I could squeeze a 3.0 plus tyre in one!
Mine was singlespeed, or 3x9/10, rigid, or with 80/120/130/150 fork, knobbly tyres, or slicks, and for a while i ran it with cx wheels.
i used the orange F8 fork, it was pretty good tbh.
far more versatile than anything I currently own.
This is a coincidence, my dad has one of these and the drivetrain is knackered so I was looking at what is required to upgrade it to a more modern 2x10 speed setup. I'm hoping hell give it to me for a pub bike!
But yes, worth doing up.
Remember how much you enjoyed riding 8 years ago? That's how it will be.
07 P7 is still my only bike. Not ridden for many years, got the bug again now. I'd say if you don't already have a hardtail, do it. Are you going to use new parts or spares/second-hand?

I think mine's an 08. Had the dropout slipping issue so got dropouts from a later year and fine since. When i'm not on the fatbike its my bike.
I'm thinking of wider bars just cos they feel weird after using the fatty but other than that i love it.
...the dropout slipping issue...
Forgot about that, used to happen on the disk side, solved with a later dropout, extra hole drilled in the frame and a bolt

Nice industrial solution, like it!👍
I have one. It's very comfy and is great fun. I might treat myself and take it to Epping for a trot this weekend!
Been out on mine (might be a 2011), while I'm waiting for my Four to get repaired. To be honest, I'd forgotten just how much fun it was to ride as it's usually my slogging through the winter gloop bike.
Riding my hardtail requires a whole different skill set and a lot more thought than just barging through everything on the full suss. I'm looking forward to heading out on it again tonight!
I had a Pure 7, it was a lovely frame with a nice ride quality and no vices.
It's absolutely worth building it up IMHO.
Re the slipping dropouts... I solved mine with anti-shake washers under each bolt. Worked just fine and needed no drilling or anything.
My wife has a 1999 P7. It's quite a lovely thing in a slightly noodly, flex the top tube a bit with your fingers, kind of way.
Fortunately she not really any kind of rider so it's fine for her.

Trying to remember how I ended up drilling mine, think I had a moan and an Orange tech suggested a newer dropout design with the third mounting point. Stops it rotating.
Was very simple to do, check 3 times drill once 😀
DO IT!
Mine was one of the last 26"ers. A 2011 I think. I absolutely bloody love this bike. I can't see myself ever getting rid of it.
Its a proper triggers broom thats seen many guises. I've used it all through the winter for night riding, and its presently set up as an off-road commuter with Small Block 8's, unfashionable 3x9 gears and no dropper. I rode it the 15 miles into manchester this morning.

Great to heat there are a few out there still.
Ive got my Fox 32's 120mm from an old fsr I had.
A set of second hand hope hubs on stans ztr flow rims set up tubeless with magic mary and wicked will tyres i got from a friend.
I was only thinking of selling all this to buy some new fat bike wheels - but then thought - sh*t ive nearly got a full bike - i should really honour it and build it up ...........
I have shimano hydraulic brakes - the triple chain set from my fsr - carbon stem - seat - bars - old hope head set ....
As I said, haven't ridden for years, suddenly motivated to go out and explore the new area we've moved to. Put on some new tyres, bike just worked.
Forks (06 Revs) starting to show their age, will service those. Everything else fine.
If I wanted some current tech new forks what's available that's straight steerer, 26", mid travel? Struggling to find much...
