Hi All,
Planning on doing the 200km Cairngorms loop from the Vertebrate Publishing Scotland Mountain Biking Book and wondered if anyone had a GPX and or route advice beyond what's in the book.
I've done a search but all I can find is info about the longer 300km double loop.
Thanks
Chris

http://my.viewranger.com/route/details/MTgwMTY=

Is this the route your on about
Ryvoan over to Abernethy forest -resurfaced path
The bit from Tommintoul to Braemar the estate has been resurfaced the track, found it a bit dull apart from middle bit at loch buig
Dont get me wrong scenery is good but paths dull after resurfacing, had done this years ago paths were rough and ready so more interesting

I would recommend from glen more head over the saddle of Bynack Mor (Lairig an Laoigh) then down past the avon refuge anf Glen Derry to linn of dee,nip along road and stay in braemar. Some hikey bikey infolved if you go for this option
Retrace steps in the morning and head out to glen tilt and then back to Blair Athol

Just use the 300km gpx and cut across in Glen Feshie. The road past Aviemore can be avoided.

Thanks both, I think the route is slightly different to those. It starts in Blair Athol and goes clockwise round the gorms.

Did this last summer, thought the LR track sections would make it dull, this is not the case, just allows progress, feels really wild, in fact didn't really see anyone away from the three villages, some great sections of singletrack on each leg to keep up the interest, i really enjoyed the journey.

PS. i have done the inner loop as well, they are different, you will be pushing a lot more.

Sorry no, i used OS maps well a cut up version, as it is on three different sheets, nav is pretty straightforward really.

Search on Strava for someone who's done it and create a route from that activity. You don't have to be a premium member to do this but you do get a "Joe Bloggs has created the route 'Cairngorms Loop'" that appears in the Activity list.

This link should be a list of suitable candidates: https://www.strava.com/activities/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&location=scotland& [country]=United+Kingdom&[state]=Scotland&[city]=&[lat_lng]=56.49067119999999%2C-4.2026458000000275&keywords=cairngorm+loop&activity_type=Ride&type=&distance_start=0&distance_end=300&time_start=0&time_end=10&elev_gain_start=0&elev_gain_end=5000

I entered "Scotland" the location and "cairngorm loop" as the keywords.

Edit: Just checked with @larrydavid's Strava activity and it seems that you have to follow the rider who logged the activity in order to create a GPX from it. I can't do it with his route but can with one of my wife's from last night.

I'm local and might be able to provide advice but I've never read the [i] Vertebrate Publishing Scotland Mountain Biking Book [/i] so I've no idea of the route you are thinking of. There are, however, many sites that will let you create a gpx file. Can you not use one of them to replicate the route in the book?

Edit - or just take a map.

I don't know the book or exact loop you mean but I did this: https://www.strava.com/activities/355094867 last year.

Just after Loch Builg, there is a lovely singletrack trail over to Glen Slugain. It just gets better and better the further along it you go. 😀

Geldie is great especially the singletrack off the main track heading down to Feshie.

That's interesting, personally I would say the opposite - unless you like water-bars, marbly gravel and carrying your bike.

This is the classic route, but in a more casual 4 days.

I'm just back from the Northern loop. It's wet. Very wet. Knee deep wading on some of the crossings and the Geldie-Feshie watershed was just one big sponge.

I'll get some photos on my blog and throw up a link.

Glen Gairn that Sanny mentions climbs E-W about 180 in 7 miles; not much you might think but it is a constant battle (for me at least, probably not for Sanny!).When you hit the Quoich Water follow the excellent trail on the north bank of it (not marked on maps but it is high above the burn) all the way down to Mar Lodge to regain the loop at Linn of Dee.

Nice blog Colin - read in a tent in sunny France and have to admit to some jealousy...

Hmmm, given the forecast looks a bit wet this week perhaps I ought to postpone. Don't fancy having to swim the river crossings!

great write up Colin - much the same route as the 3 day one I did with sanny et al in May over 3 days on our charity ride - looks a lot more washed out now though !

That bit of sweet singletrack after Forest Lodge remains one of the best bits you showed us !

hm, I've also found some lovely singletrack round by Tulloch / Loch Garten on a recent couple of recces.

Must explore more round ~Forest Lodge, I usually default to be on the Ryvoan circuit.

Hmmm, might be a bit ambitious for my first proper bikepacking outing but definitely on the ticklist now. Thanks Colin!
