You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've got the above components fitted with a standard triple front mech and been having real trouble getting the shifting from the inner, 22 tooth ring, to the outer, 36 tooth ring, reliable and consistent. The H & L adjustments on the mech and the fitting height, as well as all the usual adjustments have been tried and discarded. The chain pops up onto the outer sometimes and other times it just doesn't quite get far enough over to sit on the ring and the next time it'll pop right off the outside - it's awfy annoying.
I've just been looking on the Orange website and they state that using a dedicated double chain set is not advisable, due to the different Q factor and the closer proximity of the rings to the frame.
Do I need to bite the bullet and go 1*10 or is that advice just for the current frame ?
Or should I invest in a triple chain set and throw away the outer ring,
as recommended by Orange ?
Anyone else got the same issue ?
Did fitting a dedicated double front mech fix the problem ?
Has this been done before and I've just missed the thread ?
Thanks in advance, folks.
Kenny
You need to fit the SLX double specific front deraileur, it has a 14t range to cope with change from 22 to 36 rings

I'm currently running a 10 speed XT 24-36 with bash on my five,be aware that clearance between the chain and main pivot is tight when shifting from one ring to the other although it's not tight enough to cause any issues.
The worst that could happen is you have to fit a 34t outer so as to clear the pivot but I think that would be unlikely, just fit the double specific SLX mech and you'll be fine
Cheers dirtydog, I knew there'd be someone out there within the Singletrack massif who would have the knowledge. Excellent, derailleur ordered, you should claim your wiggle commission !
Cheaper at Chain Reaction, Wiggle was the first link I found 😳
