anyone know of a good website with some 2000 calories a day menus on it.
I have seen one but cant seem to find or remember it.
managed to lose 5 stone in the last 16 month using a certain low carb diet, but I want to lose another stone or so.
I thought the shock of a new diet might give me a bit of a boost.
good idea or not?
Did you watch The Men Who Made Us Thin on BBC last night?
Don't star eating til lunch time - www.leangains.com - worked for me. As long as your not doing 2 hour+ rides in the morning you'll be fine, I never bothered with the BCAAs either due to budget constraints

2000? I wish

Time to shake it up and look at a whole food diet
no , why?
"diets don't work", basically. We know that. It's a lifestyle change that's required.
You've done really well so far. Now, start to focus on eating for health rather than weight loss - you already know some good principles for this - and I reckon your weight will continue to drop.
If you really want to give it a boost, look at intermittent fasting - even if you only do it for a couple of weeks to get off that plateau.
Not sure missing breakfast is the (current) best advice:

Boblo- that BBC article is from 2003, there's been a lot of stuff on IF in the last year or two, shortly after I found out about it, handy timing, the wife thought I was stupid for skipping breakfast, then there was some evidence that its not bad at all.
The study linked to above mainly showed that unhealthy people skipped breakfast, not that skipping breakfast is unhealthy, I get much fewer cravings and I can control my eating much better if I eat during an 8 hour window, mine is generally 12:30 to 8:30pm give or take. I got stuck at 13 stone for months IF got me down below 12 st for the first time in my adult life.
Try the hairy bikers "lose weight & eat real food" book, I lost 2st on 1600 cals a day using recipes from that & calorie counting with MyFitnessPal.com
Go in to iplayer and look for the programme.
Basically all scientific studies show that diets work short term, but in the long term make people fatter on more unhappy.
Balanced diet and lifestyle is the way forward.
Men who made us thin was a good program, I would recommend to anyone looking to loose weight, catch it on iplayer.
Summary was diets don't work, all the experts know diets don't work in fact the chances are anything you loose short term you will put back on and more long term.
Some interesting sub points: weight watchers business model only works because dieters yo-yo coming back for more help periodically. Any wacky diet will work short term , the wackier the better. Bmi figures are manipulated to make people of a normal weight overweight increasing the market for "diet products". The manufacturers of diet products are the same people who make all the sugary stuff that makes us fat in the first place.
Personally I have lost some weight recently, I would accredit it to hours on a road bike and eating when I was hungry rather than just for fun or because taste nice.
typical day is now,
egg based breakfast
chicken/fish and salad for lunch
chicken/fish/lean meat and salad/veg for evening meal
i no longer eat between meals, and eat the odd bit of bread on a day a week.
to be honest, i cant see where i can cut back much further.
By the sound of your diet your taking in less calories than me and I'm losing quite a lot of ( excess) weight at the moment. So either your kidding yourself about your actual diet/ snacks inbetween or your not active enough. Of you think you can cut your diet further have slightly smaller portions
Sounds like you need to give your metabolism a boost, ton, seeing as your intake is low.
Try some weights/resistance training and adding some more fats to your diet - nuts/oils/oily fish/avocado.
creamegg....i have gone from 23 stone to 18 stone since last march, using the diet.
the last thing i am doing is kidding myself.
cheers wallop, someone else told me to up my good fat intake, he said to burn fat you need to eat fat.
thanks for the advice
...or your actually about the right weight for your age.
Whilst we would all like to be 10% body fat, maybe that's not really realistic for middle aged blokes. You have a similar diet to me, I've lost ~17kg now 104 to 87 ish and the loss has slowed right down, I'm still bmi of 25 which borderline overweight and there's evidence of fat by the "if it jiggles, its fat " method but I'm not sweating about it.
You have a good diet and I bet are more active than 90% of men of a similar age, it'll work out as good as it can. Better to reach your ideal weight slowly than lose weight quickly just to put it back on.
Also, building muscle will help increase your metabolism.
+1 for rOcKeTdOg
I have been using the Hairy Bikers book; eating sensible lunches & breakfast...not snacking - my intake of lattes could probably do with reducing but you have to have treat now and then!! and cycling 8 miles a day to and from work.
I'm 5'9 and was emabarrassed at hitting 18st last August...my waist had gone up to 42".
I am now 13st and waist 36".
I'm looking forward to their new book coming out soon.
I'm the last person that should be offering diet advice, given a) the amount I eat and b) I have never and will never 'diet' but I will say this, I haven't eaten breakfast regularly for getting on for 10 years (because I'd rather have the time in bed tbh), and my weight point blank refuses to go above 13st (I'm 6'1") no matter what I eat. I find that if I do eat in the morning I'm ravenous by lunchtime, whereas if I don't, I'm not.
YMMV
Tomhoward - you are me and I claim my £5
I'm the last person that should be offering diet advice, given a) the amount I eat and b) I have never and will never 'diet' but I will say this, I always eat breakfast and my weight point blank refuses to go above 12.5st (I'm 5'11") no matter what I eat. I find that if I don't eat in the morning I'm useless and ravenous until lunchtime, whereas if I do I'm happy and useful.
YMMV
That's sorted that then 🙂
Try following fitness recipes on Facebook.
Those that don't eat breakfast, what time do you tend to eat in the evening?
There seems to be a few "fitness recipes" on facebook, a link to the one you recommend would be good. Always happy to find new healthy meal ideas.
Between 6 an 8 normally for main meal, then supper at 10-11, bed around midnight
Ah well, I usually eat around 6pm, don't have supper, so like to have something to eat in the morning, gap between eating is about the same. If I do some sport in the evening, I would usually just have an apple or banana afterwards.
