Just bought my son his first 'proper' MTB with 20" wheels.

It's a great bike that he is loving riding but the tyres are holding him back. They are Kenda Small block 8 which are awesome tyres in the dry but not so good for UK winters.

I've been looking at some Conti explorers, Schwalbe Black Jack and even a Maxxis Creepy Crawler which is a trials tyre but importantly 20".

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Black Jacks. They just work.

Have Black Jacks on the beinn 20 and they've been fine for my lad around trail centres etc and don't seem too draggy on canal paths.

Maxxis Snypers. You might be able to squeeze a 2.2" on the front, they're hard to get hold of though.

The Vee Crown Gem I got on my son's 24" Orbea seem to do a good job, you can get them in 20" too. Islabike stock them, and fit them to all their kids MTBs https://www.islabikes.co.uk/collections/accessories/products/folding-crown-gem-mtb-tyre-20

black jacks on both 20" and 24" bikes with ours. Only thing is they perished quite quick, but otherwise were great tyres.

Can you set up Black Jacks tubeless?

My daughters MX20 actually came with pre-taped tubeless rims but the wire bead Kenda SB8s are far too baggy to inflate without tubes.
