I'm seriously tempted by the On-One Piccolino for my 8 yr old daughter, can then pass it onto her 4 yr old brother as he grows.

It's £400, can't see any prices for the two you've listed above though.

How heavy are they?
Edit.. 12kg+

Not sure how strong a 4 year old will be to ride a 12kg bike off road.

Equivalent non fat bikes from isla and frog probably around 8kg. I imagine the weight of the wheels will make it hard work for little legs..

I imagine they're not that much more than your standard 20-incher. Not a bad idea actually, using rubber squish instead of non-working heavy suspension forks.

12kg seems to be the standard for a lot of 20 inch bikes - the likes of Frog and Isla come in quite a bit lighter though.

My lad's first bike was heavier than my hardtail!

Wiggles ... yes! Since posting, I'd ended up looking at that Spesh too ... very nice. Think Im going to order the spesh, the price is great too, and at 12kg its the same weight as a standard (pointlessly) front-sussed 20in MTb.

Sure, I'd like a lighter bike, but lifting that extra 4kg will be good for him I reckon and his face when he sees a fat bike will be a picture (I dont have one). Im gonna be so jealous. 🙂

The sPecialized kids Fatboy looks cracking but at £800 its twice the price of the On-One. The Rip Rock with wider tyres you've posted above it far easier on the wallet at £370

The On One Kids fatbike is about the only thing fatbike related besides other complete bikes that are way above best price, the Poc was £240 earlier this year.

No idea of how suitable they are, but I've seen some Felt Crunchers reduced to ~£250 recently online, 24" wheels.

my boy rides the 24" version of this. Cracking bike, good spec, and light for a fatty

the 20"

the bigger 24" version (26" wheels allowing for a fat rubber)

TBH it's not really any sort of fatbike, you can't compare it with the proper wide tyres on a lot of these others. But also, I have creepy crawlers on my Tpro and they have all the effortless rolling characteristics of a paving slab- they're full-fat trials tyres, sticky and heavy, I'd say they're just daft for a kids' bike.

what Northwind said x 100!

creepy crawlers on a kids bike is most sure fire way to ensure that your kid hates riding the bloody thing as it will kill them to go anywhere

Lol Northwind, you wouldn't recommend the On-One for lil ones then?

Ill need to take a look at the plus sizes tyres then.

I am an On One h8er tbh so I'd only recommend one to George Osborne, and even then I'd feel bad.

Not to say it's a bad bike, it's just not a fatbike, kids or otherwise. h, I'd be being very sure it's a true 20 inch wheel as the normal 2.5 creepy is actually a 19 inch trials mod tyre and doesn't fit a normal 20 inch wheel. Maybe it's an OE spec or something or maybe they've fitted trials rims.
