Is it just me or do bikes lend themselves to ear worms?

I reckon 90% of the time i'm riding a bike or moto i have some tune endlessly running around my head.

All it takes is the sight of a slightly grey sky and i've got Travis - Why does it always rain in me? stuck in my head for the rest of the week's riding.

I won't bore you with my list (i'd struggle to get rid of them then), but most of Abbey Road features, something from the '90s i've never even looked up to find out what it is... and many more.

Try Puff the Magic Dragon for a bit of variety. Or, if you have a young daughter, that song from Frozen.

I no longer listen to music on my way to work to avoid this exact phenomenon.
When i was in my early 20s i used to pal around with a girl i knew from church, I remember telling her about the monty python song “sit on my face” and she was gobsmacked that such a thing was allowed, her reaction cracked me up so much, that i then spent the next 30 years humming it to myself anytime there was a lull in the general conversation.

You might not have ruined my next 30 years but the rest of today is certainly shot now

Yup, all the time; on the road at least, not so much off. And the ear worm my brain gives me at the start of a ride can really seem to affect general performance.

I remember once doing a long day in France where I spent several hours plagued by the intro (and only the intro) to Hotel California before late in the day passing a field of cows and then being unable to part company with “Moooo(n) River”. Twelve years later the experience still haunts me 😬

On the Monty Python theme, my last ride was accompanied by "Every Sperm is Sacred" - just the chorus though. No idea where that one crept out from.

Mine is truly dreadful - San Plan Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand. Chorus only on a constant loop. Had this for years. Arghhhh

I spent a whole 24 HR race with U2's Elevation in my head. It broke me.

But yes, sing to myself when riding. I nearly always ride with headphones, so recently anyone near me has had the vocals only of various Lamb of God songs 🙂

Did a weekend bike packing trip recently with Echo Beach all the way round. Started off nice, was sick of it after a day

Try having Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus as your regular ear worm.

My mate and I have two or three regular ear worms, and we do our best to get each other stuck with them on a ride... risky, as of course mentioning the ear worm means you could end up with it too 🙂

FWIW they're Spanish:

Read the first few posts of this thread earlier this afternoon and instantly thought of "I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world. Dope on plastic. It's fantastic!". Forgot about until this evening.

I did the grand raid cristalp a couple of years back (long race) My mates sent a message right at the start that displayed on my Garmin. It simply read "Baby Shark....". Grrrrr.... But funny

Happens to me all the time. Could be the last thing I heard on the radio before riding or something completely random. Even more irritating, tends to just be one or two lines / just the chorus that spins round and round in my head. Can sometimes be good though, for finding a pedalling rhythm and sticking to it.

Last one (Friday evening ride) was the Joel Corry / MNEK thing... Don't like the track much - OK, though nothing more than bland dance/pop - but it does speed up your cadence...

House of Gold by Twenty One Pilots kept me riding for more than a year.

It was replaced by Baby Shark.
