You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Rigid mountain bike, used for genre road, canal tow path duties. 2 drive side rear spokes broke today. Rode, very gingerly for 4 miles, post break, seem ok. Have 10miles to do to get home tomorrow am, worth risking it, or should I give up and take it on the train? Just wondering how likely a catastrophic failure is?
You should be ok
In honest truth, who knows? Not being unhelpful. I mean that it really comes down to your own heads internal risk assessment. 😉
If the route home is on busy roads, might be worth getting the train.
Then again an off road route might be harder on thew wheel?
For balance, you should die.
Probably fine, if they're not close you could probably get away not taking it too easy.
(i had three next to each other go on the non drive side earlier this week and rode 7 miles home ok. Did wobble a lot though.)
I took it easy when I was 4 down, plenty left crack on
I would not take it round Laggan Red, but for a potter home it should be ok IMO.
Snap two on the non-drive side to balance it out
*not a serious suggestion
How many spokes were there originally.
Oh, and yes you will die, it's just unlikely to be spoke related

If Amazon is getting away with not paying taxes then I'm going to have a crack at not dying
Ta for all the replies, on balance I thought I'd go for it...
...I didn't die, but I didn't get home either. Got about 4miles, twang, another one gone. Didn't think I'd risk it any further, so walked to nearest train station.
Just for fun, while waiting for the train, I thought I'd see what happened if I rode again. Within 50meters, twang, number 4 gone. 3 of them adjacent to each other.
Hope my wheel building course, that i've been signed up to since sept, gets enough takers to run soon.
Hey mate,
Sorry to hear I was right but glad you got back in one piece mate.
Good luck with the course.
