Got a 2 or 3 free days for a cx based cycle tour. Building fitness up after injury so looking at ~40 miles/day and staying at pods/B&Bs to keep the weight down. Aiming for Lakes, Yorkshire Dales or Peaks to avoid loads of driving.

One idea is based upon the pod-n-pedal route of Penrith to Kendal via Ambleside. What is the state of the cycle path between Penrith and Keswick now? And is it possible to cycle offroad/quiet road now between Keswick and Grasmere avoiding the A591? Wasn't sure if that was just a temporary thing last year when the road was being repaired? I hate riding with loads of fast traffic, so looking for more back roads or non-technical bridleway.

If you're thinking the Peak District, this old guide book, could give you some ideas

It's an oldie but a goldie 😀

Do a variation of the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, swapping out some roads for bits of track. We did it one March over three days stopping in Youth Hostels - Ingleton and Grinton.

You can't avoid the A591 completely, but you can climb out of Keswick via St John's in the Vale, take the road around the west side of Thirlmere and the new bit of BW takes you to the crest of Dunmail Raise. So you have a very short blast downhill until you can get off onto minor roads again.

This. We did the actual (roady) route a couple of years ago over three days, started/finished in Addingham and overnights in Ingleton and Reeth. Absolutely brilliant.

Yeah we've just looked at this again - looks good. Certainly one for next month or something. Hostels not yet quite open. However it's close for us, so can do it another time.
