We are moving to Sheffield and i'm starting a new job in November, but have 2 months off before i start. We've sorted out our van as a camper, but we are torn about where to go. We've not had a good year so far so the aim of the trip is to relax and recharge before starting a new chapter. The plan is to travel for between 6 and 8 weeks. Options are doing th British isles - Scotland, Northern ireland and Republic of Ireland. Other option is heading down to Bavaria and off to Slovenia and Croatia. Taking the bikes, so would like to get some riding in. I've never done the West coast of Scotland and i think the remoteness and quietness would be very relaxing and peaceful but its not often that you get 2 months off to travel and would we look back and wish we had taken the opportunity to do Europe. However, we wont be working, so cost is important and the current pound/euro exchange rate is not favourable.

Any other options, anyone got any ideas. What would you do?

Croatia has some lovely national parks. Might not be the solitude you require tho.

Weather will be more reliable further South of course, Western Isles are lovely though.

For cost Eastern Europe - Czechoslovakia, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia are all very cheap so a 10-15% move in exchange rate still makes them miles cheaper than Scotland. Lots of national parks and stunning scenery, historic cities too.

Italy is a good suggestion, plenty to see far off the beaten track from mountains in the North through Tuscany and to arid South. Islands too.

Spain and Portugal are cheap

So many options, enjoy the time

Croatia is beautiful and very very cheap. We drove to Pula (3hrs from my house at the time) and spent a week camping on the edge of a forest on the beach, whole thing cost about 200 quid including festival tickets and as much karlovachko as we could get down ourselves!

i like the west coast ALOT - but 2 months off - im on the continent every time.

the other risk with the scottish west coast is - if you come up you will be forever wanting to come back / live there 😀 - i know i do and i only live on the east coast....

Forget the motorhome, load the bikes up and head east?
See where you end up in a month, turn round and head back.

Given two months I'd definitely wing it.
No plan is worth sticking with for that long, it just creates stress, specially if there's two of you.

I went on holiday to Slovenia this spring (sadly not with bikes) and it was an amazing country, I'd highly recommend it. Message me for ideas of where to stay if you go.

If I had the time I'd do a big road trip in Northern Scotland, take the chance to explore places like Skye and Torridon that you can't realistically access over a weekend.

Croatia is great as is Montenegro and Bosnia, cheap to live. We went Italy solvenia Croatia and it was a good trip.

Italy Tuscan Alps, the Apennines really not visited onto abuzzo/gran easel with bases at l,aquila and sulmona beautiful and big hills we only spent 18 days again good trip but hot.

Portugal is cheap and incredibly varied we have done Lisbon and Porto but one daughter walked the Camino way and thought it was stunning.

Ironically only just getting g you d to more Scottish visits, so that may get my vote
