Currently have an 08 Orange 5 which isn't getting enough use and a rock lobster 853, with 100mm rebas. Both bikes have 2011 XT groupsets and Thomson stuff.

Pondering splitting and selling both to fund a Soul, as a full new build, probs 120mm Revs, new XT group set, reverb, hope hubs on 719's.

Ride Scottish natural stuff and occasional trail centres. The rock lobster isn't quite enough for my 47yr old self on bigger days, but wondering if Soul would cover all bases and update my kit at same time.

Any views ?

Iain, if you fancy a spin on a soul, let me know. Might be a tad big for you though.

What I mean is that I feel I could do with a bit more travel and comfort when up proper mountains...really the days that the 5 comes into its own. If I had lots of cash I would get a new 5 and a new 100mm xc hard tail, for winter muddy night rides, but wondering if a Soul would be do it all enough

Indeed, if I could only have one it would be full suspension these days.

Almost embarrased to ask if youve considered them there larger wheels...
As a HT they do roll nicely over bumps (compared to 26" wheels)...
Failing that, I had a Soul some years ago & if it were made law that a 26" wheeled HT was the only bike one could have, it would be my first choice.
Luckily, its not. 🙂

Now that's a step too far 😀

Tried it but not for me with short legs and long torso. My local rides are tight twisty natural slow routes that suit wee wheels !
