2 humans up front and 2 boxes in back with rear seats folded flat. What is the smallest (and hence cheapest) car that they'll fit in? France is the destination so French cars coming up cheaper. Would a Megane cope or am I looking at an estate?

What dimensions on the bike boxes? Proper travel cases or delivery ones? Key part will be width.

One of them is a Polaris at 117*86*26, the other is a soft case.

if its an airport pickup, just book the smallest, and when you turn up explain that you need to get the two boxes in. You can then upgrade to whatever you need.

I would expect that most 'megane or equivilent' would work, but not all

this gives rear seat down dimensions for a megane (intended for people with wheelchairs, etc) - remembering rental car co's hide behind you will only get a car in the class you booked not a specific model but be nice or spend the money on an estate

Me and 3 mates have done the same in a golf and A3 with same load as you.
(don't expect to see out of the rear view mirror though 😉 )
