650b on a 25mm I/d rim

What's the standard rear to go with it?

It depends really.

I tend to either run a 2.3 aggressor or 2.3 DHR2 on the rear with a (2.5wt) DHF on the front. In the winter sometimes the DHF makes way for either a Mary or Hillbilly.

I don’t know my wtb tyres that well but the Trailboss is ok on the back in dry weather. Think the one I’ve got it a 2.4 tough / fast which I bought for Antur Stiniog last year so I didn’t mangle the aggressor on shark rocks. Did a sterling job.

In my experience WTB tyres tend to be true to size whilst maxxis are narrower than what’s written in the sidewall. Maxxis 2.3s are pretty skinny. I’m currently running a 2.8” vigilante up front on a 30mm rim & it’s not too baloony, the profile is fine. I’d imagine a 2.5 on a 25mm rim would be fine also. CRC has them cheap at the minute. Only 2 rides in so far & As a serial tyre whore I think it’s going to be my favourite tyre. Very magic mary ish but softer, grippier rubber than the schwalbe soft compound and a slightly squarer profile meaning it works better on narrower rims.

Wan't impressed enough by the last Vigi /Trail boss combo I tried. Sized well, but they were a PITA to mount and dismount, and had a nasty tendency to slide in the mud a bit unpredictably
