Currently got a Chunky Monkey that is getting past its best.
Will be used year round, tubeless.
Bike is rigid singlespeed.
Chunky Monkey has been fine apart from occasionally struggling in off-camber, slick mud, but don't know if that is just because it's worn out.
Anyone run a HR2 on a rigid fork? Would 2.3" be noticeably different?
Chunky Monkey is cheap...
the new conti trail king 29x2.4 protection
Havent run the 2.4 TK yet because I mounted the updated 2.3 baron and it's bonkers good.
Worth a look as a year round tyre.
I went from a Chunky Monkey to a Minion DHR 2.4, it's so good I don't notice it.
Edit: On my rigid MTB I went for a 29+ tyre (Chronicle), that's the way forward for rigid imo
Worth a look as a year round tyre
Not so good in loose conditions. Just swapped mine over to a TK (old one)
First proper rain today in months.. it's been dry and loose as sin and it's still remarkably good.
Granted I haven't compared it to the TK though.
Last time I used a TK was on 26" wheels (2012 I guess?) So time to get some mounted and dirty 🙂
Oops, when I mentioned the HR2, I was actually meaning Minion DHF 2.3. (That's what you get with afternoon drinking...)
Thanks for the replies so far..
I have a Trail King II 29x2.4 brand new in the class if your interested
I run a Hans Dampf 2.35 tubeless on the front of my rigid 29er pretty much all year twinned with a Smorgasbord on the rear, also tubeless... always found it a great combo
Surely it depends a bit on what you run on this rear…
I have just ordered a Michelin Wild Enduro which have just been released in 29". It gets positive reviews in 27.5 so hoping it'll be a good all rounder.
Minion DHF 2.5 or Chronicle if you have the space and suitable rims.
Thanks @pinkwafer I’ve been holding off for them, got some on my hardtail and they’re really good tyres
