I have an orbea terra gravel bike running 1x11 with grx mech and rotor crankset.
I'm wondering as the bits wear out whether 105 di2 12spd (shifters and mech) would work as an upgrade.
I know its specced on some (Orro for example) gravel bikes, but its always 2x on them.
Is the rear mech suitable for a 1x application?
If this is an option..would I be able to use the existing hoses that run through the frame? Or would they need to be replumbed?

Thanks in advance

I doubt the 105 mech will have the capacity for anything more than around a 34t cassette, and it won't have a clutch, so chain drop ahoy

Thats what I figured, thanks for confirming.
So I will be waiting for 12sp grx then I guess.

I am about to find out if a 10sp Tiagra with a goat link doofer can work well with an 11-40t cassette.

Is there a reason you're set on 12sp?

11sp GRX is awesome IMO.

Well, i much prefer the shift of electric gears and im not great at replacing cables. Ok with DI2 though.
But mainly to get the slightly tighter ratios that 12sp would bring. I use as a winter road bike too (spare wheelset) and the smaller gaps lower down would help on road I think..

105 di2 rear mechs will run up to 11-36 so you may well get more than that with a 1 x set up as long as you have sufficient B screw adjustment.

The key issue with the new design for me is that the brains are all in the rear mech which is the most exposed part.

I'm a Shimano man myself, but it sounds like you should just get Sram Xplr AXS?

I am considering it Chaka.. Downside then is not used to bleeding Sram brakes.

Bleeding SRAM is no easier or more difficult than Shimano from my experience.

And AXS is better implemented than Di2 in my opinion (I'll admit I haven't owned drop bar AXS yet, still using mechanical on my gravel bike, but have had Di2 and have AXS on my MTB)

Apparently there may be a 12sp GRX announcement at Unbound in early June, plus some spec sheets (for built up bikes) had been leaked a little while ago - I'll see if I can find them.

Looked like 10-51 cassette, and the groupset being called GRX820

Regarding XPLR AXS - I had the Rival groupset for a month or so last year. Gear shifting (and range) was very good, but didn't like the brakes at all. I found bleeding was easier than Shimano (obviously in my opinion), I just couldn't get them set up where the lever (the buttons, really) weren't contacting my fingers around the drops when breaking (appreciate that might not make sense).

I'm back on GRX mechanical now, and would love Di2 (even 1x) 11 speed, but doesn't seem to be stock anywhere...
