Everyone is different and rides different places and lots of discussion scattered about so thought something brief and to the point would be useful. Must be a set up you are happy with or comment why not.

28t round, 11-42 (11 speed), 650b Lapierre Spicy, towards the whippet end of the spectrum, ride in Surrey Hills and the Mendips in the UK and mountains abroad. Works for me.

34oval, 11-40, 650b FS, Hilly, could always be a bit fitter but do alright.
30t oval,10-42 on a 29er hard tail trail bike. Above average fitness but pushing to high gear ( for me ) just kills my legs.

30 round, 11-42, 650b, FS, Mountains, CbF
26 32t 10-42

Had 34 for a while but prefer 32.
34 Oval, 11-50 (!), 29, HT, Hilly XC, reasonably fit but always working at it
Set up gives me a good blend of top end and winch gear to pull me up the steepest hills
30 round x 11-40 (29er hardtail)
30 round x 11-40 (29er full suss)
Hilly / mountains, reasonably fit.
30t round, 10-42, 27.5, FS, bit of everything, reasonable fitness

Bit of everything, could be a lot fitter
34 Oval, 11-42, 26", 160mm FS, Hilly(ish) Surrey Hills, fairly fit and with anything less that a 34 on the 26" I find I'm spinning out too often. New 27.5" bike soon so will be interesting to see if I can still handle the 34 or need to go down to 32.
38 round, 11-32+46 on my HT, I find I'm riding off the block on a 32
28t round 11-42t 650b 150mm full susser (would be oval but for stupid hope mount on their cranks)
26t oval 11-42t fat bike - great ratio for crawling up and over anything

32T Oval, 10-42 - 170/160mm FS
32T Oval, 10-42 - 140/140mm FS
Ride in reasonably hilly areas (4000ft in 15-20 miles), gets up everything all day long.
32T round, 10-42, 130mm full sus, few hills, trying to get fitter.
32 x 11x32, climb up anything and is pretty good top gear wise until you hit a long downhill forest road, but bloody love it on my boardman 26er, 9 speed though.
26t round,11-42, 29 er ,lakes and similar, average fitness 54 yr old.
30T round 10-42 29er HT, Hilly/TC CbF
30T round 11-42 26 140mm FS Hilly/TC CbF
32 oval with 11-40 29 Full suss. Which is OK if I'm not racing, thinking of going for a 45 tooth on the back to give me an endurance bail out gear.
32T round 11-42 Travers RUSSTi 27.5+ and 29er wheels, I swap to a 30T for endurance events.
32 oval 11-40 26" HT. Right for local area (leicestershire). Would like a higher 10. Struggled in the Lakes, just about right for the Peaks. I always could be fitter (I'm convalescing with broken collarbone), It's going to be a struggled when I eventually get back on the bike. (Oh it's 10 speed not 11)
I changed my BFE to 36 x 11-40 I was using it for commuting around Dundee (excellent cycling town IMO) one Sunny evening I decided to drive over to Balkello and have a mooch, the climb up to Balkello Fort shredded my thighs, some of the locals on their bouncy bikes regarded me as some kind of maniac, but were very pleasant nonetheless.
32 oval, 11-42 works well for me on everything except very steep hills that can be a struggle.
32 oval - 11/50 di2, ALL, CBF 😆
34 tooth oval chainrings, running either 10-42 or 11-42 depending on wheels. Riding 650B hard tail or 650B full sus, both set up very XC race.
Live in Leicestershire, so rolling countryside. Pretty fit (can normally hold my own in Expert cat XC).
36t round, 11-40, 29er 120mm/100mm xc FS. Mostly use only as my XC race bike, bit of sunny Chilterns singletrack, the odd Afan visit. Whippet.
30R 10-42 27.5 Fs 150mm mountains
34oval 11-42 26 hardtail
30R 11-50 fatty hardtail
Love the 1x11 setup but would still like a lower gear on the Fs.
42 (round) 11-36 for a bit of variety!
Gnarmac. Just got back from 2/3rds of Dr P's tour de SE England.....
34t round
11-40 cassette
Rigid 29er
Everything- Touring, bikepacking, trail centres, hill climbing, Yorkshire moors riding (don't know how to label this)
Honestly would prefer to fit a 36 or 38 for the touring stuff but chainstays are too broad so I make do.
36q-ring oval 10-42 29er Rigid - Local
34q-ring oval 10-42 29er 100mm FS - Local, Events
34 10-42 650b 120mm FS for the rough / peak
30t round
10-42
650b 160mm full sus
Peak District
CbF (and lighter)
Wife has the same but 11-46 so it gives the same bottom gear as her old 3x9.
