I really really don't want to put a chain guide on but I keep dropping the chain on my 1x10 set up.

I have a narrow wide ring, clutch mech, good chain line, sensible chain length, very little wear in chainring and chain.

But still the chain drops occasionally when things get rough.

Any suggestions?

for aesthetic reasons?

the top guides weigh bugger all.

Reluctant to put chain guide on mainly for mud clogging and noise reasons.

But yes, aesthetics and weight do add to the reluctance to put one on.

Attach some rubber to the the top guide for noise. As for mud clogging, that's complete lunacy. Plenty of people have coped with dual and triple setups in the past.

70 grams is also nothing to lessen the chance of you becoming a cropper due to a dropped chain.

top chain guides don't touch the chain unless it's in danger of falling off so there's no noise.

I've never had mine clog up enough to affect things - it's much less open to stuff than a front mech.

Stop being so precious and put a chain guide on, they're not noisey and I've never clogged one up or you can start mincing everywhere.

As others say they don't touch so are not noisy and do not get clogged up.

When my chain started to wear a lot it did this. Then when my Works Components nw got really worn it did this. I now have a new Superstar nw an not dropped since. Helps that the teeth are longer.

And that's without a clutch mech.

Try one of the Hope top guides. I was dropping the chain on a few rides, fast rocky stuff. The Hope was fitted and stopped it from happening. A bit expensive for what it is but it works.

I found my top guide quite noisy actually.

I've heard that Superstar's N/W rings have slightly longer teeth than RaceFace. Maybe enough to make a difference, maybe not.

If your top guide is noisey it's not setup properly. The chain shouldn't really even touch it in normal conditions. Normal top guide here (e13) and can only remember hearing it when it somehow got bent a bit

As above, it might be the chainring is worn.

Chain and chainring are only 10weeks old. Chain isn't worn much. I'll try tighten the clutch mechanism.

Send me your mail address I will send you one of mine to try it doesn't have longer teeth it just has the right kind of tooth profile lots of folks have now proved it works the way it should if you apply a bit of cad development and PRECISION to the machining

This latest batch haven't gone to ano yet so you will just have to try it without the purple ceramic coated see on ebay nut only in purple
