I have just installed SRAM 1X on my Topstone with HYRD brakes. I have got to the end of the build but I cannot get enough tension to stay in the cable to get the gears to work. I have double checked the bead at the end of the cable is housed properly and then cable tied the housing to the bars so I can give it a good pull. I have tried everything I can think of (which isn't a great deal to be fair) including taking the housing off at the drops and pulling the cable then replacing the housing and securing (temporarily)until I can get it working then remove then wrap. Has anyone got any ideas or insight into what I can do to sort this or what I might be doing wrong? missing. Expertise appreciated, thanks
Are using a SRAM inner cable? Sounds like you know what you are doing but no end of SRAM 1x force/apex problems seem to be due to using non-SRAM cable which is larger diameter.
It's the cable exit at the shifter that's at a stupid angle.
Try the narrow SRAM cable.
I ended up with a flexible v brake noodle from the shifter round to the front of the flats, then into outer. All hidden under the bar tape.
Works well.
According to my local LBS it's a mare of a job...

Switch to SRAM cables is one of the many things that didn't fix the problems I had with SRAM 1x shifting.
The whole setup is very marginal in terms of the rear mech having enough spring strength to overcome the significant friction in the shifter, and the friction caused by the stupid cable exit position on the shifters.
Not taping the cable too tightly to the bars can help, as can switching to full length outers if there are other points causing friction.

Only enough outer for 1 full length, cables are pretty short so check the length if your frame is big.
Replaced unprotected down tube routed cable with a full length outer. Not sure why you would spec unprotected down tube cable on an off road bike, stops working as soon as it gets mildly dirty. Genesis, I'm looking at you.
SRAM mechanical routing from the lever is a whole lot better than it's hydro counterparts, it does sound to me like there is slack somewhere in the system caused by the cable snagging on something.
Is it full outer all the way? What is the routing like? Are you clamping the cable the right way at the mech?
If it uses cable stops and internal routing is there any chance the inner cable is wrapped round the brake hose in the frame?
You can test run an full length outer external cable as a sanity check
On the alloy topstone the internal gear routing is a pain and can get crossed with the brake and droper cables inside the frame. B screw is also critical for the mech being able to shift down so check that aswell.
