I love my FlareMax - I hate the down rude cable guides that flick open as every opportunity and make the bike look like a telephone exchange on a windy day.
Surely someone must make a better quality option - or is it just me?

I got some of these for my BFE which are good for one cable, apparently out of stock at the moment though.

I know Ragley do some aswell but ive never been able to find them in stock anywhere.

How many cables do you run on the down tube?

Which guides are they? The simple clip on jobs (one per a hose/cable), or the block ones (that hold more than one in place)? Any photos so that we can maybe make cable routing suggestions?

Not had any problems across 2 bikes (her Flare, my Rocket Max)

Are you sure they're done up fully? I found I couldn't just snap them over as they didn't latch fully, I had to slide the top bit into the bottom from one side - takes a bit of effort and they're definitely under tension when latched.

The block ones need sliding closed, for sure.

They are the “block” plastic three cable clips , Kelvin. Even if you slide them to close, the nugget still pop open at the first change. I have resorted to gorilla taping them down ... which looks a bit rubbish.

Show us your cable routing. Mine have never popped open, I’m wondering if the hose/cable is pulling it open a bit when your bars turn. Which side of the headtube are you running the cables/hose?

I seem to remember that mine popped open a few times until I worked out how to close them properly. Now they've been rock solid for a couple of years and I actually like the ease with which I can work on the bike with the (mostly) external routing.

Mind you, I seem to remember that the knack was to slide them, which you've already tried, so not much help 🙂

Okay - trying the bend and slide method - and hope they don’t pop open once it gets warmer ...

Be grateful you don't have a Mk1 Soul with metal rings for cable guides, so you have to disconnect the hoses and thread them through....

Can you not just use cable ties?

But you get the lovely rattle as you ride along with those 🙂

I found you can half engage them and they look okay then pop out later. You need to be really careful to slide the hooks together. I think they work well for bike maintenance then as are super quick to use if not pretty! I ordered a set off cotic recently as my second hand rocketmax had been previously 'improved' by a bike shop mechanic! That was enough to convince me that cotic's solution was actually pretty good!
