Every year I try.. Will be on the gravelgnar this time.  Maybe it will be only slightly disappointing, as gravel isn't that fun anyhow.  This year I also have a ridiculous headlamp on a go pro mount on my helmet. What a helmet I am.

Why are you avoiding the proper gnar?

I can't get pictures to post on this dam place!  Went out last night (for a run) was amazing. Go as the sun is setting and the moon coming up.  Go proper off road too, gravel tracks will be 20 times more dull in the dark than they are in the day time...which is pretty dull.

Night riding is brilliant, until the mud gets here...

Eh ?  Night rides are bloody brilliant.  Managed to do one last week (well the sun is setting earlier, so its not hard) we were all grinning and laughing and looking forward to the next one.

One of the best ones I had was when I had to lend a light to a mate, so I was down to one on the bars.  Seems less is more.

The other memorable one was about this time of year when all the leaves were covering the ground.  I rode into a pond, in the dark the floating leaves just looked like the forest floor 🙂

Night rides are ace - the first one is always rubbish cos it takes ages to find out where my lights are & then the batteries aren't fully charged...

As per Del, but Tuesdays.  It's more about when we have to start with lights, rather than if they'e used at all.  Especially as there's usually a pub afterwards.  I rode through the night a couple of months ago, that was The Best ride.

I find night rides can be spiced up by remembering that there is nothing out there at night that isn’t there in the day.

Only at night it’s awake, and hungry/horny...

You would've hardly needed lights last night, the moon was hooooj.

Howsyourdad, you missed a good one down this way at the weekend. Huge moon, clear skies, lovely. Mind you, it was late when I got out. Still, another couple of weeks and night riding will mean my commute home from work.

Well the alternative is to stay in and watch Mourinho bore everyone to death with a one nil, how is that night ride sounding now?

This will be the first week this Autumn where my after work ride finishes in darkness. I'm looking forrward to it. Riding though the woods during twilight and into darkness is awesome, although there has been the odd moment of terror, when there is a sudden loud rustling in the bushes, which sounds like being charged at.... before a deer leaps out and across the trail only a couple of metres ahead!

I work irregular shift's so it's night rides all year round for me, but that said, there is something about noticing the nights drawing in on the fun rides. I find it beautiful and somewhat depressing at the same time.

I have small kids, and usually don't ride until after 7 in the evening...

And I live in Denmark, where it gets dark at about 4 in the afternoon for months, so it's great that I like riding in the dark!

Torchy on the bars, Exposure Joystick on the lid.

If I didn't ride in the dark, I would not be riding at all!

Full moon, clear skies, still and cool.  Wish I was heading out tonight.  Night riding is the best and tonight is as perfect as it gets.  Might try and sneak out at 11ish for an hour.

As others have said this time of year is the best for night riding, when you can go out without a jacket, see a sunset and still be riding on non muddy trails it's just brilliant.

I've not been on s night ride in ages. Kinda got sick of them so didn't bother last year.

But I've charged my batteries and last night cable tied a light to my lid. Hopefully head out Friday night once I've got the little one to bed.

Not done a solo night ride for about 7 years I reckon. In fact the last one I could hear someone/thing behind me. I'd stop and check but see nothing. Fairly bricking it I bashed on at a fair pace! It was only when I got back to the car I realised it was a zip on my camelbak making the noise 😊

I’m off for my first “gravel” ride tomorrow night.  I have a 90 minute window and am planning a route, which currently is 80% road...

I guess some of the joy will be exploring to find the bridleways etc that were too dull for the MTB, but would liven up a road ride.

I love night riding as it spices up local trails. As said above it’s the first few where the trails are still largely dry that are the best. I still like the muddy ones but clearing up all the muddy kit when you get home at 9pm is depressing!

So i went out last night. Some of you may know i live in Sweden, quite a long way north. So when it is a night ride, it is night, like pitch black with no one around, no street lamps etc for most of the journey. That is cool in many ways, but I do feel very isolated.

I enjoyed it actually. Gunning along on some hard packed gravel by a lake lit by the moon. It livened up a fairly bog standard route. I think i'll carry on for a month or so, then switch to indoors when it gets to minus temps, then to XC skiing when the snow comes.

Monday was lovely for that. Great sunset and the moon was huge as well.

With modern lights no reason not to stay out riding the interesting trails.

Hey Del!

I live in Nørresundby... about 2 kilometers from the MOD track in Nørre Uttrup. Not much good in the winter, though, as you can only ride from 4 in the afternoon till sundown! 🙂

Fellow Dane, I presume?

Yeah, not in the vicinity of Birkerød... But the blue trail in Rude Skov is pretty good, if you ever get the chance! 🙂

I turn the lights off to watch the muntjacs galooting about the place in the twilight.  Then I go galooting about myself in the moonlight.  Barking and scattering ensues.  I'm sure they must wonder why I'm barking.

Looking good tonight and tomorrow.  Bredon Hill sounds like a plan...
