After a ride at Rivington at the weekend getting rattled to bits by the rocks I made the mistake of having a go on my mates Remedy (Lyrik and coil shock) my god it felt good, after 34 years on various fully rigid bikes then hardtails I think it might be time to take the plunge. Mainly ride Rivington/Peaks/Cannock/Gisburn/7 Stanes, I've been looking at the YT Izzo and Jeffsy (both core 2) as can get on cycle to work (GCI). Current bike is a Ragley Marley with Revelation fork which I've never really rated so would sell that on. Anything else I should consider? Kind of thinking the more downcountry Izzo would suit me, mates of course with more enduro'y bikes are saying Jeffsy but I'm a more wheels on the ground rider than them.
Jeffsy is very capable and still pedals well. I’d say it’s probably similar to the Remedy other than wheelsize in terms of being in that long travel trail category.
Izzo is meant to be a chunk faster over more mellow terrain but will still be a decent jump in from the hardtail you have now.
Santa Cruz seem to be having a sale at the moment via Stif cycles - the Tallboy or 5010 could do a job for you too in the shorter travel category.
Bird Aether 9 also worth a look I reckon.
I had a carbon Jeffsy which cracked on the downtube (under the plastic guard which wasn't damaged) after 5 months, YT said it wasn't covered on warranty but offered me a new front triangle for around €1100. I ended up getting it repaired for around £350 but I wouldn't recommend a YT based on that experience
Rivington/Peaks/Cannock/Gisburn/7 Stanes
For all of those I’d go for a shorter travel trail/downcountry bike.
Do some demos if you can. For my 1st FS, I nearly bought a Spur, ended up buying a a Bird Aether 9, and now find myself considering more travel (and coil) rather than less.
Is that the guy that got it for £1200?
Correction. I stole it at £1,200 😂. I have reduced it a bit and I think it's really good value.
But I might well keep it if it doesn't sell well. But I also built and still not ridden my Big Al, so not sure which one I'll keep.
Pop the Canyon Neuron on your list (2023 model onwards). Fast and capable on ups and down and sounds just right for the type of riding you are doing. Demo days coming up in May. They do CTW.
I'd be interested to know nick what you don't like about the izzo.
Reduced from what exactly ?!
I don't know yet as I broke my arm 4 weeks ago just after buying it and changing all the bits that were not quite right for me: proper tyres, 175mm Fox dropper, a 140mm Fox 36, 800mm carbon bars, e13 shorter stem, normal grips, Spoon saddle.
It's perfect on paper for me but I can't ride it yet. Might never do, I don't know.
Started at £2,495. I reckon it will sell when the weather turns.
Oh k - heal up nicely yh Nick 😊👍
Just to state the obvious have you looked to see if you can get to a Cotic demo. Sonder will demo from the Hathersage store.
Even if you don’t buy from either will learn loads
Cheers @dartdude
It's the elbow so not too bad. Starting tennis in 2 weeks time again but no riding for another 4 weeks.
I had a Jeffsy. Great bike and really fast. The bearings were glued in place by the factory and changing them was a right pain. I now have a 5010.

Izzo ordered!
I think the Jeffsy would give you more options about riding anywhere as they’re very capable.
I've changed my order to a Jeffsy, Ragley marley coming soon to the classifieds...
