Toying with the idea of picking up a ht to use for shorter local rides, stuff with kids over winter and keeping the worst of the winter slop off the fs (I ride all year round before someone says it, but it has to be spotless before it goes away and it can be tedious cleaning a bike when I’m half frozen after a ride).

Looking for 29er ht budget of 1k, so much choice out there it’s bewildering. Don’t mind last years model so long as I’m getting as much as I can for my money. More travel the better.

What are the current STW favourites?

Boardman end of line pro 29er hardtail. £800.  I got an ex display one for £720.

Wheels are definitely worth an upgrade but the rest of the bike is a great spec

There's a carbon scott 29er on evans for a bit over £1100 and they'll give you another 100 quid off if you trade in any old bike even a kids bike.

If you’re the right height, buy my Stanton over in the classifieds! Add a new SLX groupset and have a very nice ht for 1k
