A friend is trying to restore his Dad's old bike and need to find a matching pair of rims - 26x1 3/8. Preferably similar ish to the original Raleigh rims on a road bike from 1935. The rear is a 40h and the front 32h, reusing the old hubs (rear is a Sturmey Archer 3 speed caliper brakes). Any ideas for finding a pair? Tried ebay but can't get a matching pair. Need the quadrant shifter also but have seen these on eBay.
SJS cycles? they have big stocks of odd stuff.
You might have to go for the nearest modern equivalent to get tyres and rims tho
Sheldon brown has good info on tyre and wheel sizing Looks like american cruiser rims might fit

do they have a braking surface on the outside of the rim like modern bikes with caliper brakes or doe sit use the inner rim next to the spokes as a brake surface and pull the blocks up onto it?
Try Madgetts in Diss, Suffolk.

Mick is into the old stuff. Its where I go for parts for my 1952 Claud Butler Jubilee.
Wwaswas - sidewall/calipers.
Sun Ringle used to have a polished silver 40h 26inch rim but can't find any online anywhere! Plenty of 32h & 36h. SJS do have non polished alloy rims that might suit.
